Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! I’m excited for us to begin exploring books, and
writing in my classroom. Your learning is my top priority, so I will not accept any behavior that
distracts you or your classmates from learning. As a student in my classroom, you are expected
to:
Listen to and follow directions
Enter on time and be prepared
Always use class time for class activities
Respect yourself, your teacher, your classmates, and your school
Never give up!
Positive choices → Positive consequences.
For every day that you behave appropriately in class, you will earn funny money bills. Exemplary
behavior can also earn you additional funny money bills during class. These bills can be used to
buy various privileges in the classroom. For instance, bills can be used to buy late-homework
passes, and other rewards. Once you have accumulated several bills, you can also buy prizes
from the prize box.
You and your classmates are learning together. You should work as a team with your
classmates to behave well. Each day, your class has the opportunity to earn a marble for good
behavior. 10 marbles will earn your class a reward such as a game day, or listen to music day.
Misbehavior and consequences
Misbehavior in class will result in the following consequences:
1) Verbal warning
2) Second warning, no funny money.
3) Issue a demerit, and email / phone call home to parent
4) Detention and email/phone home to parent.
5) Sent to Mr. Kelly’s office.
Note: If the misbehavior is severe enough, any consequence can be applied. For instance,
insulting another student will result in the third consequence, and the assignment will be to
write a letter of apology that includes three compliments.
Entering Class
You must be inside the classroom starting the warm-up routine when the bell rings, or you will
be counted tardy. Following Coy policy, a tardy results in a demerit:
1) Place any homework in the homework tray located on my front desk.
2) Once homework is in the tray, begin bell ringer on the board on a piece of paper.
3) Once bell ringer is finished, I will collect and we will begin our lesson or activity for the day.
Bathroom
Coy policy is that you use the bathroom between classes. You have a 5 minute transition
period, which will give you more than enough time to use them before class starts. I will also
allow the last 10 minutes of class for bathroom breaks, or trips to the water fountain.
Homework
Homework is an important way to practice what you learn in class. If you turn in your
homework late, it will not receive full credit. Late work will be graded as follows:
One day late: 80%
Two days late: 60%
Three days late: 40%
Four or more days late: 20%
Absences
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up the work that you missed. You will have
the same number of days as your absence to make up the missed work.
Food/Drinks/Gum/Cell Phones
To keep our classroom clean, you will not be allowed to eat food, or chew gum. If you are
caught chewing gum, you will be issued a demerit, and you will not receive funny money for the
day. If you use your cell phone in class, it will be confiscated. All cell phones are to be in your
pocket, powered off.
I have carefully read this syllabus and understand the policies and procedures in Mrs. Corpus’s
class. I will work relentlessly to be prompt, prepared, polite, and productive, and to follow Mrs.
Corpus’s procedures so that I can learn as much as possible this year.
