While it can be said that certain bands ‘embody’ an attitude, lifestyle, or belief, Massachusetts’
long standing quartet, THE ACACIA STRAIN, ARE anger. This shines thru now more than ever on their
recently released full length entitled “Wormwood”. The bands fourth effort for Prosthetic Records is
without a doubt their heaviest, most aggressive and relentless record to date. Start to finish,
“Wormwood” is sure to both impress and strike fear into the hearts of all who dare listen to it.
Those that DID dare to listen were many and immense. The album was the BEST selling record of
THE ACACIA STRAIN’s career to date. Wormwood debuted at #67 on Billboard’s Top 200 with first week
sales of over 6,0000 copies and combined of over 20,000 units to date and counting. The album entered
#21 on Rock album charts, #6 on Independent album charts, #8 on Hard Rock album charts, and #22 on
Tastemaker album charts.
With the success of their previous full-length, “Continent” (which debuted at number two on
Billboard’s “Heatseekers” chart in 2008), and their DVD “The Most Known Unknown” (which debuted at
number 10 on Billboard’s Top Video Sales Chart in February of this year) THE ACACIA STRAIN continues
to prove themselves viable and influential in today’s extreme music scene. On "Wormwood" lyricist
Vincent Bennett returns to convey more anguish and turmoil than ever.
To record “Wormwood”, the band returned to the scene where they created “Continent”,
Planet Z Studio in Hadley, MA. Notorious producer (and owner of Planet Z Studio) Zeuss has had an
impressive and extensive list of artists he has worked with including Hatebreed, The Red Chord, All That
Remains, and more. “Wormwood” is another shining example of his knowledge of the extreme music
genre and his exquisite production style.
This time around we find guitarist D.L. experimenting with 8 string guitars, adding further depth
and low end to the band’s already crushingly heavy signature sound. While current fans of The Acacia
Strain are sure to appreciate “Wormwood”, this album is sure to garner new fans, both young and old,
with the impressive display of both technicality and mind-numbingly destructive music.
THE ACACIA STRAIN will be appearing on the 2011 VAN’S WARPED TOUR and are really looking
forward to it. The band’s extensive tour history has put them on the road and in front of thousands
upon thousands of people all over the world with other notable acts such as Unearth, White Chapel,
Bleeding Through, Killswitch Engage, Despised Icon and August Burns Red, while also appearing on
numerous festivals and festival tours, including Sounds of The Underground and The Cool Tour.
