QUOTES FROM THE 2016 NEW YORK TIMES TRAVEL SHOW
South African Tourism was pleased to continue our partnership with The New York Times Travel Show
for the ninth consecutive year. This year in particular, the number of meaningful conversations our team
had with both consumers and trade was encouraging, and we are confident that our participation in the
show will not only increase South Africa’s brand awareness, but will result in increased bookings for our
partners. We were thrilled with the positive response to our Oculus Rift virtual reality installation, as
there was a constant line at our booth throughout the weekend. Presenting on the “Taste of the World”
stage was another great opportunity to showcase our destination. Combining a culinary experience
with a destination presentation proved to be a powerful combination with a standing room crowd of
over 200 in attendance.

We had so many visitors to our booth that my voice went hoarse! Also, I had an interview with a
journalist about our destination of Valdez, Alaska, and now we are working out details of her visit here.
She wants to come and write about our beautiful area. Great connections happen at the New York
Times Travel & Trade Show. We can't wait to go again next year!

For me it was amazing to meet clients I met 2 years ago and initially got them interested in our product.
They came back to the show and told me they had an amazing trip with us and thank you!

This was our third consecutive year exhibiting at the show. We found the connections made on Friday's
trade-only day to be valuable and useful. The consumers were a savvy bunch, serious about booking
tours and doing business with us. It was a great way to meet friends, old and new.
