Brief chronology of what has been happening so far:
2012-2013 - Japanese club on Tuesday lunchtimes.
April 2013 - THS invited to participate in UK Japan Young Scientist Workshop in Cambridge.
Contact made with Clifton Scientific Trust by Judith Wardlaw. Once signed up for the
Cambridge workshop we were invited to also participate in Kyoto workshop.
May 2013 - Candidates selected and funding arranged for Cambridge and Kyoto trips.

June 2013 - Beginners’ Japanese put on the year 12 curriculum as an enrichment activity.
June 2013 - £2500 funding for resources and Japanese assistant from Japan Foundation.
July 2013 - Cambridge UK Japan Young Scientist Workshop
August 2013 - Kyoto UK Japan Young Scientist Workshop
September 2013 - Japanese clubs. Monday after school lower school. Tuesday lunchtime all.
Wednesday after school sixth form and GCSE students. Year 12 and 13 lessons start.
November 2013 - Students selected for 2014 Cambridge and Japan trips.
December 2013 - Contacted by Professor Yamashita of Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto. He
will be visiting the UK from August to December 2014 and wishes to visit schools and
observe science education. THS agrees to host for two weeks – looking for other schools in
the local area to host for a few days so that he can stay in Dorchester for one month.
Possibility of making school links with Ritsumeikan University affiliated primary and
secondary schools. Possibility of participation in Primary Science Olympiad 2016 in Kyoto.
February 2013 - One student entered for A2 Japanese, 2 students for GCSE Japanese, and
17 for Entry Level Certificate.
March 2013 - Seeking funding to keep Japanese assistant available for Monday and
Wednesday after school clubs. Possibility of funding for Japan Day from Japan Society.
Possibility of funding from Japan Foundation for other schools
wishing to introduce Japanese in any way to their schools.
July 2014 - Cambridge UK Japan Science Workshop
August 2014 - Tohoku, Japan Workshop
2014-2015 - Residential exchange with Rikkyo School, UK
In the future… - School links with Japan?

Japanese taught through DASP and offered as GCSE?
Cross-cultural and cross-curricular projects across DASP schools
and with local community?
