Discovering College Academy (DCA) Club
Article 1: Organization
a) DCA Club: Discovering College Academy Club
b) This club is to help African-Americans who attend Laces High-School to
gain knowledge about colleges and opportunities for volunteer services.
c) We meet once a month at 3:15, in the orange building across from the
Parent Center. In addition, there will be weekly meetings for members
and officers without Ms. Baker and Mr. Holmes. If there is no school on
Monday, the President will make an announcement as to when the
officers will meet that week.
Article 2: Membership
a) African-American
b) Attends Laces High-school
Article 3: Officers/Election
1. President
a. President must attend all meeting, manage the point system along with
Ms. Baker, checks in with all officers and makes executive decisions
when the officers and members cannot make a cohesive decision. The
President must be in contact with Ms. Baker and Mr. Holmes,
throughout his/her term. Ex: Where to volunteer. The President will
also have to make sure the secretary is posting daily on the DCA Club
Website.
b. Elections will be held the last meeting of the school year in order to
organize before the next school year begins.
c. Term of office: 2 years, unless members and officers make a cohesive
decision in which the President cannot be reinstated for his/her second
year. President can be reinstated even after 2 years.
d. President must have gone to previous DCA meeting. Must be willing
to sacrifice his time in order to help the club excel.
2. Vice-President
a. Vice-President must attend all meetings, take over for the president
when he/she does not attend.
b. Elections will be held the last meeting of the school year in order to
organize before the next school year begins.
c. Vice-President should be willing to sacrifice his/her time for the club
and must attend all meeting.
d. Term of office: 1 year, unless reinstated by members and officers after
voting.
3. Treasurer
a. Treasurer must be responsible with the money the club receives and
must attend all meetings. Treasurer should also be in close contact
with Ms. Loo.
b. Elections will be held the last meeting before the school year ends in
order to begin organizing for the next year.
c. Term of office: 1 year, unless reinstated by members and officers after
voting.
d. Treasurer should be responsible and trustworthy with money. The
treasurer must be willing to sacrifice his/her time in order to help the
cub succeed and must attend all of DCA meetings.
4. Secretary
a. Secretary must attend all meetings and take good notes during the
meetings. Secretary will also need to take care of the DCA club
review on the Laces website, must submit a review every day in order
for the club to continue on.
b. Elections will be held the last meeting before the school year ends in
order to begin organizing for the next school year.
c. Term of office: 1 year, unless reinstated by the members and officers
after voting.
d. Secretary must be a good listener, good note taker, and must be
willing to sacrifice his/her time for the cub.
5. Officer
a. Officer will take care of the attendance sheet, make sure everyone is
in the room when the meeting begins, and make sure everyone is
listening during meetings.
b. Elections will be held the last meeting before the school year ends in
order to begin organizing for the next school year.
c. Term of office: 1 year, unless reinstated by the members and officers
after voting.
d. Officer must be serious and attend all meetings.
Article 4: Representatives in student council
a) Voting will be held in order to determine who will represent DCA in
student council.
b) Representative must be dedicated to the club, they must an extensive
amount of knowledge about the club, must be able to attend all student
council meetings, and must be able to make executive decision.
c) Term of office: 1 year, unless reinstated by the members and officers
after voting.
Article 5: Adult Advisor
a) Ms. Kristi Henry (College Counselor)
b) Ms. Henry is allowing us to use her room (The College Center) whenever
needed, including the weekly officer meetings.
Article 6: Financial activities
a) At this moment we do not have any money, but we will raise money at the
Laces festivals and BPO meetings whenever needed.
b) We will be raising money in order to go on field trips to other colleges
and for activities during the after school meetings.
Article 7: Amendments to the constitution
1. Members can only miss three after-school meetings (Due to the fact that
they are after-school, once a month, and Ms. Baker and Mr. Holmes are
volunteering for our benefit) unless Ms. Baker and Mr. Holmes say it is
okay. If one misses two meetings without the knowledge of Ms. Baker or
Mr. Holmes, there is a possibility that the member could be cut out of the
club. If the member does one hour of community service, then they will
be able to come back.
2. All members must attend at least two community service opportunities by
the end of May (by the end of the school year). There will be many
opportunities throughout the year.
3. NO disruptions during presentations by volunteers and speakers.
4. Point system: ( Ms. Baker and Mr. Holmes may change it as they please)
a. Everyone starts off with 200 points, but you lose 20 points by not
coming to the meetings.
b. Assignments are worth 10 points
c. Tests are worth 10 points
d. Everyone also receives 10 points for attending the weekly meetings.
5. Prizes will be given by Mr. Holmes and Ms. Baker to the students the
members with the highest scores.
6. All officers must attend the weekly officer meetings, or else there could
be a possibility of losing his/her position.
7. All officers can also lose his/her position if they do not fulfill their
requirements (Including the President).
8. All members must do all assignments given to them, by the end of the
year.
