COURSE DESCRIPTION

For successful participation in professional and social life, students must develop
effective communication skills. Rapidly expanding technologies and changing
social and corporate systems demand that students send clear verbal messages,
choose effective nonverbal behaviors, listen for desired results, and apply valid
critical-thinking and problem solving processes. Students enrolled in Professional
Communications will be expected to identify, analyze, develop, and evaluate
communication skills needed for professional and social success in interpersonal
situations, group interactions, and personal and professional presentations.
MY PHILOSOPHY

Professional Communication course should connect with your lives to speak
responsibly and communicate effectively.


ORAL PRESENTATIONS

All presentations will be typed and presented with an outline.

Major presentations are at the end of every six weeks.

We will do three major presentations.
1st speech
Informative
2nd speech
Persuasive
3rd speech
TBA

I will announce what type speech we will be doing with time so I can
explain and guide you though it.

I will be assigning other speeches besides the three major ones. Don’t
worry, they will be fun.

90-100= A
75%
80-90= B
70-79= C
60-59= D
0-59 = F
RULES AND PROCEDURES

Seating- Where ever you want at the beginning. Seating will change if behavior
is inappropriate.

Tardiness-We will strictly adhere to the school’s tardy policy. Be on time to
class.

Missing exams/ assignments-Late work will be accepted with 5 points deducted
each late day. It’s your responsibility to request any missing work.

Bathroom/ hall passes… Use wisely.

No sleeping- I will not tolerate sleeping in my class!!!!! You are here to learn,
not to sleep!!!!

Use polite speech and proper body language.

Teasing and impolite behavior will not be tolerated.

The teacher dismisses students, not the bell.

Talk only when permitted.

Be aware of the courtesy to others who are presenting. I will remind you only
once about your courtesy

No electronic devices.
GENERAL INFORMATION

This course will be interesting and exciting. We will be doing a lot of fun
activities and presentations. So please come prepared to have fun and learn.

If you do your best for all the speeches, do all of your work, actively participate in
class, and do your best on all tests, you will pass this class!!!!!!!!

If you need any additional help, please don’t hesitate to ask for my assistance.
My door is open to all, and I will try my hardest to help you. But remember, you
must show me that you are really trying your hardest in order to receive help.
