Preschool Transition Plan
Lake Park Audubon Preschool teachers and staff regularly communicate with the staff and
administration in our K-6 Program. The LPA early childhood and Head Start classes are located
within the same building as the K-6 elementary school program and there is constant
communication with and among the staff.
In addition to proximity the following activities provide for a smooth transition for preschoolers
entering kindergarten at Lake Park Audubon Schools.
1. Meetings are held with pre-school and K-3 staff on a regular basis. These meetings help
to coordinated curriculum and activities among the various parties.
2. Lake Park Audubon Schools is a part of the PreK-3rd Grade Leadership Institute
formulated by the Minnesota Department of Education. Meetings and trainings will be
held on the following dates: January 29, 2014, March 12, 2014, April 23, 2013, and June
18, 2013. Staff from each grade level at LPA will participate.
3. A kindergarten readiness night is held each year. The readiness night will occur on
March 13th, 2014 for this school year. Head Start, ECFE, and kindergarten staff will all be
present to introduce preschool parents and children to the kindergarten teachers and
provide activities that will make the transition between preschool and K-6 as smooth as
possible.
4. Our LPA Early Childhood Program has been a part of the Minnesota Reading Corps for
the past two years, and LPA Elementary School has had Minnesota Reading Corps
services for the past six years. FAST testing is an essential part of these programs and
this helps create a common language among the staff. Children needing extra help are
identified prior to entering kindergarten so the transition to our LPA Title I Program is
facilitated.
5. Transition meetings are held each year. LPA ECFE and Head Start teachers meet with
the kindergarten teachers to discuss the needs of students, particularly those needing
extra help. The preschool teachers make recommendations for classroom placement
and interventions that will help meet the needs of students.
