Selected Response Assessment
Subject: English Language Arts 8th Grade
Unit: Grammar Unit One
Purpose: This formative assessment will be used to assess the students’ knowledge and correct
use of nouns, pronouns and adjectives. It will be given at the end of lesson three of Grammar
Unit One. Grammar Unit One reviews all eight parts of speech as well as builds on the students’
prior knowledge. This is the first unit taught at the beginning of the year and it is used to review
and refresh the students’ knowledge as well as lay a foundation of knowledge to be used
throughout the year. The teacher and the students will use this assessment to identify the learning
targets that have been met and those that will need additional work and further study. This
assessment will also help the students to understand the areas in which they need to take
corrective measures to prepare for the end of unit assessment. After receiving their results the
students will self-assess to gain a clear picture of their strengths and weaknesses with the
learning targets.
