Change Description
Purpose and Objectives
Define the project and objectives – background, define the business drivers, expected outcomes, and business concepts for the project
Background
Provide a description of the business problem and any action taken previously to solve the issue. Why do we need to do this
now? What if we do not do this project?
Project Objectives
Provide a concise description of the expected final project results in terms of business outcomes.
Business Concept
At this stage of a business project, it is typically difficult to define the solution. The purpose of this section is to clearly define
what the solution will achieve from a business process or user perspective, not to describe the technology. The business
concept session should surface key requirements and user issues and include a description of the expected end process. The
business sponsor may complete this section. It may be useful to include the following:
• A diagram of the final business process
• Involved groups
• Information flows
• Sites/geographies affected
Project Solution
In nontechnical terms, describe at a high level how the problem will be solved or the business need met.
• What are the key features of the system?
• Who will use it?
• What are the components?
This section may include a discussion of alternatives, including use of existing systems. If appropriate, provide a before-and-after
diagram of the technology or situation.
