PURPOSE: The purpose of this program is to explore the ethical dimensions of current healthcare
topics such as limited access to healthcare services, the lived experience of the un- and
undersinsured.
FORMAT: This session will include a brief ethics presentation, viewing of the documentary The
Waiting Room (click here to learn more about this documentary) and panel responses from a variety
of healthcare professionals.
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:
o Identify barriers and challenges to healthcare services for the un- and underinsured.
o Explore the delivery of healthcare services through a typical emergency department in a public
hospital setting.
o Describe the various professional responses to the documentary "The Waiting Room".
o Recognize opportunities to integrate compassionate care into the healthcare delivery setting.

The Creighton University Health Sciences Continuing Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.5 AMA PRA
Category 1 Credit(s) TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the
activity.
AAPA accepts AMA category 1 credit for the PRA from organizations accredited by ACCME.
The Creighton University Health Sciences Continuing Education designates this activity for 2.5 contact hours for nurses.
Nurses should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Nurses licensed in Iowa and California: This activity was planned and developed in accordance with the continuing education standards
of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The Iowa Board of Nursing and the California Board of Nursing will honor ANCC
continuing education credits for face-to-face programs held outside Iowa and California, or for ANCC-approved online recorded courses
taken in a self-study format.
The Ethics on the Big Screen – The Waiting Room is sponsored by Creighton University Health Sciences Continuing Education
(HSCE). HSCE is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy
education. This activity is assigned Universal Activity (UAN) # 0839-9999-13-041-L04-P and is accredited for 2.5 hours for
attendance of all CE sessions on December 2, 2013. The Ethics on the Big Screen – The Waiting Room is a knowledge-based CE
activity.
The Board of Mental Health does not pre-approve continuing education course offerings, but will accept a continuing
education activity provided they are planned and conducted for mental health practitioners, marriage and family therapists,
professional counselors, or social workers, and if they are related to mental health practice. Continuing education offerings for
individuals who hold a social work certificate, but are not licensed as a mental health practitioner, must relate to the practice
of social work. Each professional is responsible for their own certification.
ACCREDITATION STATEMENT:
This activity has been planned and implemented by Creighton University Health Sciences Continuing Education and Alegent
Creighton Health for the advancement of patient care. Creighton University Health Sciences Continuing Education is
accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE),
and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing education for the healthcare
team.
Continuing education will be granted only for participants who attend the entire session, and will not be awarded to those
arriving more than 10 minutes after the program begins or leaving prior to the end of the evening’s session.
