JOB TITLE: Regional Participation Officer RESPONSIBLE TO: National Participation Manager LOCATION: Mobile working with a dedicated office base. On average; 30% in the office and 70% working face to face with partners in sub region. SALARY: From £20,000 per annum (dependant on experience) plus benefits ABOUT TENNIS WALES: Tennis Wales is the governing body for tennis in Wales and works very closely with its two main partners, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Sport Wales. The Welsh Assembly Government funds Sport Wales and its role is the development of sport across Wales in line with the 2020 Vision for Sport in Wales. The Lawn Tennis Association is the governing body for Tennis in Britain and a major part of the role is to support the LTA to deliver the Strategic plan for British Tennis. ABOUT THE POSITION: An exciting opportunity has arisen to develop tennis in Wales across Clubs, Community and Education. As part of the participation team you will work to grow the game and workforce in sub regions in Wales. Working closely with key partners and engaging with new partners to grow the game in Wales making it accessible to everyone in the community. KEY DRIVERS: Tennis Wales 2020 Vision Plan 1. Changing the perception of tennis Changing the perception of tennis from an expensive, middle class sport which is technically difficult to play, to a perception of tennis being fun, cheap, accessible, healthy, sociable, and a sport that has a variety of different playing formats suitable for any age and ability. 2. Maximise Schools and Parks as key entry routes to playing tennis Over 70% of all tennis is played at these venues, and 89% of tennis players say that they want to play tennis with friends and family rather than at a members club. In addition, tennis is now the third most popular sport that school children in Wales would like to play, so there is a huge latent demand for tennis at Schools and Parks. 3. A strong culture of fun and appropriate tennis competition to keep players hooked on tennis for life Playing fun and appropriate competitions will increase player satisfaction and increase retention. 1 / 08/02/2016 4. A network of strong, sustainable tennis clubs & centres with excellent facilities, and growing numbers of tennis members Tennis players are looking for good quality facilities and clubs with a variety of well- run and appropriate tennis activities. Clubs who can provide this will attract and retain a greater number of members. These clubs also need to be able to effectively promote what they are offering around the local community. 5. Tennis is an accessible sport for everyone We want tennis to be accessible to all sectors of the community. This will include accessibility for people of different socio-economic backgrounds, different ethnicity, people with disabilities, and an increased percentage of women & girls playing tennis. 6. A strong and growing tennis workforce to deliver tennis development and tennis activities We need a large and effective workforce of coaches, volunteers, competition organisers, and officials who can positively deliver tennis activities. 7. A quality & integrated performance pathway that can produce international players We want a performance pathway that attracts young talented athletes to tennis, allows them to be identified at an early age, and ensures that they get the required support and training that they require to reach their full potential. ACCOUNTABILITIES Clubs Support clubs to be inclusive and self-sufficient, grow membership and support the workforce. Support clubs to reach out into their local communities to promote and drive both recruitment and retention. Create a strong culture of fun and appropriate tennis competition to keep players hooked on tennis for life. Education Promote and support the education offer for 2 to 22 year olds Continue to grow school competition across the age groups with partners Support the workforce across education for teachers and students to enable more opportunities to play the game 2 / 08/02/2016 Community Changing the perception of tennis by engaging with local community partners to promote tennis being fun accessible cheap healthy social able, and a sport that has a variety of different playing formats suitable for any age and ability. Identify alternative venues as key entry routes into playing tennis Deliver nationally coordinated locally activated campaigns attracting new and lapse people to tennis Work closely with the Community Indoor Tennis Centres (CITCs) to maximise usage to maximise participation Activate relevant opportunities to enable local people to drive tennis opportunities within their community Ensure competition opportunities are geared up to support participation at parks and community sites General You will work as part of the participation team reporting to the National Participation Manager To provide excellent customer service and respond to feedback and enquiries in a timely and professional manner To attend regular Team Wales and Participation Team meetings and provide relevant feedback as and when required To be an ambassador for tennis in Wales by positively promoting the sport and those that work and volunteer within it To contribute to or lead on projects (as required) to support the delivery of the Tennis Wales 2020 Vision 3 / 08/02/2016 Person Specification Qualifications Competent IT skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Databases, Microsoft Office, Internet) Full Driving Licence A satisfactory DBS disclosure Tennis Coaching Qualification Skills / Competencies / Experience 1.
