New Beginnings

Version 5, Issue 2

A Message from Dr. Bob

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior! Everyone at

Greater Piedmont Teen Challenge would like to thank you for supporting this ministry through your giving, your prayers or shopping at our thrift store, Blessingdale's.

We anticipate the warm weather Spring brings. When a new man comes into Teen Challenge seeking change in his life it brings a new sense of excitement and anticipation as to what

God will do in and through each of them. It reminds us of

God's unlimited grace and mercy. What a wonderful Savior we serve. It is a wonderful feeling to know we can offer such hope to men who are feeling so alone and hopeless.

Our men will be singing and sharing testimonies at our Spring

Banquet on April 24th. I hope you will plan to attend. You must purchase your tickets before the deadline of April 20th.

More information about the banquet is on the back of this letter. Join us, will you?

We continue to raise money for our expansion program. We have received numerous donations from our supporters, but we still need more to get this first stage completed. Would you make this a matter of prayer? Join with us as we seek

God and ask Him to speak to the hearts of those who have the ability to make this dream a reality.

We want to reach more men with the saving message of hope in Christ. Matthew 28:19 tells us to go and make disciples.

That 's what we do at Teen Challenge -- we disciple the men who come to us.

Blessings!

Dr. Bob Harman

Executive Director

Redeemed and Set Free

My name is Robert Erps and I grew up with a nihilistic attitude towards everything.

I was born into a family which held Christian values. Life in the Erps house was normal... normal for me. My mother was sweet and compassionate; my father was hard working and taught us kids how to work hard.

My siblings and I grew up in church. Needless to say, I disliked attending church. As I grew up, I was kicked out of youth group many times. We also went to

Youth Camp every summer. I never wanted to be at camp, but as it would come to a close I didn't want to leave because I knew I had missed "something." That something was Christ. Each year I would go and each year I would leave, always feeling like I had missed something.

If you feel something long enough you either learn to live with it or you learn to despise it. I learned to live with the idea that it didn't matter. So I did whatever I wanted to do. By now, what I wanted to do was drugs. Most of my time and all of my money was spent in the bar or at the dope man's house. Once all my money was gone, my friends were gone. All that was left were broken pieces of the lives I had shattered on the way down from my high. I only thought of myself and how was I going to get high. I began to think about how I was going to fill the hole in my soul that only God could fill.

At this point I wanted to end my life. The drugs and alcohol kept me in a perpetual downward cycle toward the destination of sin and death.

From the bottom of this pit I realized life without

Christ at the center is pointless and meaningless, but with Christ it is full of joy and peace. A change took place when I dedicated my life to Christ. I came to

Teen Challenge and found truth. I am now a child of

God, redeemed and set free by the blood of Jesus. My faith is growing, my fear is waning. Praise God!
