Athletic Code of Conduct
Bridge Bulldogs Athletics
Policy Statement
Bridge Bulldogs hold themselves accountable to a higher standard of extraordinary excellence. Studentathletes at Bridge Junior High School are expected to represent themselves, their team, and their school with
high moral character, sportsmanship, and upstanding integrity. Whether it be academically, athletically, or
socially, student-athletes must carry themselves in an appropriate and respectable manner. Participation on a
sports team is considered to be a privilege, not a given right. Moreover, participation has many benefits and
brings with it an enormous responsibility to be positive and effective members of a team, athletic program,
school, and entire community. It is expected that all student-athletes abide by team, athletic program, and
school rules. Student-athletes who do not conform to this code are subject to consequences for their actions.
The severity of any misconduct and violation of rules will be assessed at the discretion of the coach and
administration. Penalties may include probationary warnings, suspension, and/or dismissal from the sports
team or athletic program.
Policy Guidelines
Bridge student-athletes are expected to:

Be a student first and an athlete second. Academics should remain the top priority. Students that are
having difficulties in the classroom—academic or behavioral issues—may be ruled ineligible for
games/competitions.

Take full responsibility for personal belongings (backpacks, bags, equipment, electronics, etc.).

Be respectful of others; treat people the way you want to be treated. This positive attitude and
mentality should be applied towards coaches, teammates, opponents, officials, miscellaneous event
support staff/personnel, etc.

Be respectful of the game/sport. Demonstrate class, dignity, and pride in victory or defeat. Display
quality sportsmanship and fair play by participating within the rules of the game/sport.

Be present. Playing a sport is a major time commitment that requires dedication, work ethic, and
discipline. Student-athletes are expected to attend all scheduled practices and games/competitions.
Special accommodations and extenuating circumstances must be communicated to the coach ahead
of time.

Compete in practices. Playing time is earned, and the most deserving players will have the opportunity
to play in games/competitions. Each player must understand their role, displaying the true meaning
and value of team.

Compete in games/competitions. Bulldogs display best effort regardless of the score. Never quit on
yourself or your teammates.

Have fun! Sports should be enjoyable; play for the love of the game.
Parents, family, & spectators of Bridge student-athletes are expected to:

Be aware of important dates and times of events, including means of transportation.

Follow the “24 hour cool down rule” after games/competitions. Questions, comments, and concerns
may be voiced to the coach; however, any issues or necessary conversations should occur with at least
a 24 hour cool down period to avoid emotional reactions that are heightened by the sporting event.
Following this procedure will allow cooler heads to prevail, and any issues will be resolved utilizing a
healthier form of communication.

Be professional at games/competitions. Adults should set an exemplary model to the student-athletes
in terms of how to act during a community sporting event.

Be respectful to student-athletes, officials, miscellaneous event support staff/personnel, and other
spectators. Examples of unsportsmanlike spectator behavior includes—but is not limited to—the use
of profanity or inappropriate language, booing, heckling players or officials, and verbal or physical
altercations with other spectators. Actions deemed to be unprofessional will result in spectators being
removed and excluded from future games/competitions and extracurricular school events.

Be present to support your student-athlete, sports team, & athletic program. Extracurricular activities
can certainly be difficult in regards to attendance due to schedule conflicts; however, make an effort
to attend games/competitions to cheer on the team as much as possible. It means so much to the
students!
