Constitution and Bylaws Of Delta Rho Undergraduate Chapter Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated PREAMBLE We, a group of Sorority women, organized as Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, of the Pacific Region, State of California, Delta Rho Undergraduate Chapter under the advisement of Nu Omicron Zeta Graduate Chapter, the sister Greek letter Sorority to the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, do hereby bind ourselves together for the purpose of serving humanity by: A. Encouraging the highest standards of scholarship through scientific, literary, cultural and educational programs; B. Uplifting worthwhile projects on college campuses; and within the Community, fostering the spirit of sisterly love, and promoting the ideal of Finer womanhood. We the members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Delta Rho Chapter do hereby adopt the Constitution of By-Laws of the above named organization. In order that we may govern ourselves more efficiently, carry out transactions in a businesslike manner to promote the ideas of the National Organizations, and develop a stronger and more unified Zeta sisterhood, we will adhere to the guidelines set forth in the following Delta Rho chapter by-laws ARTICLE I Insignia The name of this organization shall be Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, of the Pacific Region, State of California, Delta Rho Undergraduate Chapter, sponsored by Nu Omicron Zeta Graduate Chapter. ARTICLE II Goals The goals of the Psi Lambda Chapter are to promote and foster the goals of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, which are fostering the ideals of: A. Sisterhood B. Scholarship C. Community Service D. Finer Womanhood ARTICLE III Chapter Objectives Revised June 2011 The chapter goals shall be reflected through the implementation of the following objectives: A. To perpetuate and continue membership growth of the Delta Rho Chapter by: 1. Recruiting 2. Community Activism 3. Retention of Campus recognition status 4. Positive Program sponsorship B. To provide programs that shall result in rededication of the Sorority’s Founding principles of: 1. Scholarship 2. Finer womanhood 3. Community Service 4. Sisterly Love C. To design and implement volunteer programs that will continue to improve the Community life and human conditions throughout Santa Barbara, California. D. To project the image of finer womanhood through community service E. To promote the concept of Networking F. To enhance the service of community programs. ARTICLE IV Membership The Delta Rho Chapter shall be comprised of Undergraduate women who shall be matriculating at University of California, Santa Barbara leading to a Bachelor’s degree. Section 1.Prerequesites A. Intake of perspective members should follow the guidelines as set forth in the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Handbook under the membership selection/ intake program section Perspective members shall be full time matriculating students in University of California, Santa Barbara, with a minimum overall grade point average of 2.5. B. Positive leadership abilities as observed in the classroom setting, membership in UCSB or community programs or organizations. C. Acceptable personal character that promotes the Zeta idea of Finer Womanhood. For example, does she always present herself in a ladylike manner, is she studious, is she taking her role as a student seriously, does she participate in positive campus activities, whom does she keep company and associate with, is she respected by classmates and other students. High moral reputation: For example, will her personal and social conduct reflect on Zeta in a negative manner, is she lewd, loud, boisterous, rude, a troublemaker, anti-Zeta in speech or actions at any time, or does she use profanity or publicly swear in excess. Section 2. Intake A. The intake process for perspective members should follow the guidelines as set in the Sorority Handbook under the Membership Selection/Intake program Section B. In order to be eligible to participate in the Intake Process, the soror must be active, not on probation, and must be MIP certified. Section 3.Inactive Members A. Inactive sorors are those who are not financial with their chapter. B. All Zeta activities for inactive and/or non financial Zetas will be limited to the chapter’s discretion. Sorors will be invited to chapter meetings but will not be able to cast a vote. Section 4. Probation/Suspension A. Members failing to maintain a 2.5 semester GPA and a 2.5 cumulative GPA will be placed on chapter probation/suspension for the following semester. The guidelines for academic probation/suspension shall be set by the chapter with the majority of the chapter in agreement of guidelines ARTICLE V Structure Section 1. Executive Committee The Delta Rho Chapter executive committee shall be comprised of these elected officers: Basileus 1st Anti-Basileus 2nd Anti Basileus Grammateus Tamias Phylacter Historian Z Hope Coordinator/Community Service Chair Fundraising Chair Section 2. Elections Officers shall be nominated every year during the spring semester at the second to last chapter meeting. An officer must be nominated by a formal motion and second by another chapter member. The advisor is prohibited from voting, but can provide recommendations regarding chapter officials. An officer must be elected by the majority of the chapter members present at the meeting, provided there is a quorum present during the time set aside for elections of officers. The election shall be by written ballot. Revised June 2011 Section 3. Committees Committees may be established for a specific need or purpose and shall cease to exist when said need or purpose has been served. These committees are approved by the Basileus. Section 5. Advisor The advisor of the chapter shall be selected from the Nu Omicron Zeta graduate chapter, approved by the Third Anti-Basileus of Nu Omicron Zeta Graduate chapter, as well as the body of the chapter. Campus advisors shall be selected by the chapter if necessary or according to policies and regulations of the College or University. ARTICLE VI Meetings A. There shall be bi-monthly meeting scheduled for the same time and day and agreed upon by the chapter for the subsequent year at the final meeting of the spring semester. The conference shall be located in an area that is accessible to all active and financial sorors. B. All Sorors will adhere to the “Fine System” which consists of the following” With Notification Without Notification Unexcused Absence $1.00 Unexcused Tardy $0.50 Excused Absence $0.00 Excused Tardy $2.00 $1.50 $1.00 $0.50 $0.00 C. All Fines are to be enforced by the Tamias and are to be paid before the next business sessions. Excuse and Unexcused will be determined but he committee which consists of the First Anti Basileus, Second Anti Basileus, Grammateus, and Phylacter. If a tie the Basileus will have a vote. ARTICLE VII Financial Obligations Section 1. Financial Obligations All Sorors are required to meet all financial obligations set forth in the National Constitution and By-Laws of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated as well as local obligations set forth by the chapter at the first business meeting of the year.
