The Michigan Museums Association invites proposals for student papers to be presented at the 2015
Annual Conference to be held at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Annual Conference will be
held September 30 – October 2; the deadline for proposals is March 31, 2015.
While we invite proposals for papers on any topic within the field of museums, those that adhere to the
conference theme will be given special consideration. Participants in the student paper sessions must be
actively enrolled (or a recent graduate) in a museum studies, public history, historic preservation, or
related program. Students may present individually or as part of a group of presenters; three student
papers each will be selected for up to two sessions. The MMA seeks to showcase students from programs
across the state—all interested students are encouraged to apply.
Student proposals should provide a written summary/overview of the material to be presented, not to
exceed two paragraphs and be submitted along with the Student Paper Submission Form (next page) as a
PDF file to the 2015 Program Chair. Students are strongly encouraged to work with their program faculty
in their shaping of a successful proposal.
To accommodate as many papers as possible, presentations will be limited to 15-minutes. Students
whose proposals have been accepted must attend the 2015 Annual Conference to present their paper in
person. Appropriate presentation technologies will be made available to support student presentations.
All proposals will be reviewed by a committee who will determine which papers will be accepted; their
decision will be final. Students will be notified about the status of their proposal no later than April 30,
2015.
Student presenters will be acknowledged in the conference program.
