University of Oxford—Universidad de Salamanca
Erasmus Exchange 2015-16
Call for Applications
The Sub-Faculty of Spanish seeks applications from students of Spanish who wish to study at the
Universidad de Salamanca during the Year Abroad. Five places will be available for the academic
year 2015-16.
The Universidad de Salamanca, one of the oldest universities in Europe, was founded in 1218. Today
it is of medium size, with around 30,000 students. It has particular prestige in the Humanities. The
historic town of Salamanca has c.180, 000 inhabitants and is within easy access of the capital city.
The Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Details of the Scheme
 The exchange runs for the duration of the academic year and students are expected to attend
for the full year. In some limited circumstances they may be permitted to spend just one
“semester” at Salamanca.

Oxford students will study with Spanish students, not with US Junior Year Abroad students.

Oxford students can study any subject within the Faculty of Philology, which offers degrees
in English, Spanish, Classics, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Romance Languages,
Portuguese and Hebrew. These subjects are regularly ranked 1st or 2nd in Spanish National
Rankings.

Oxford students in Salamanca are limited to 3 subjects in another Faculty, i.e. they can take
the number of courses they like in Philology and, additionally, not more than 3 outside
Philology.

Oxford students will have accommodation, if they wish, in one of Salamanca’s Colegios
Mayores (Halls of Residence). The University of Salamanca can reserve rooms for them in
advance.

Students will receive an Erasmus monthly grant; in 2014/15 this was €350. The grant rates are
set by the British Council and will be confirmed for 2015/16 later in the year.

Each student signs a Learning Agreement, setting out their programme during their Erasmus
year. This has to conform both to what the home institution needs them to do and also to what
the foreign institution can offer.
