Dear Young Scientist Interns,
Recently my community’s water supply has been contaminated, as a result, of the
introduction of polluting chemicals. The pollutants are making the water unsafe for consumption
thereby endangering local human and animal life. While the chemicals can be removed and
filtered from the water, the effects of the pollution still exist. This includes turning water
extremely acidic. All water consumed must first be filtered.
I have researched several purification systems which may be used to clean our drinking
water. I need your help in determining which to suggest for the community. Our community
consists of many families with varied incomes and needs. Your team is to rank the purification
systems from highest to lowest using the research provided. Teams should consider: purification
method, initial cost, cost per gallon, convenience, filter lifetime, and other accompanying
information.
Please write a letter in response including: a rank of purification systems and a detailed
description of the method you used to rank them.
