Job Description
TITLE: Assistant Floater
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Floater is responsible for the day to day operation of the Alternative
Living Unit (ALU) and is the primary implementer of the outcomes and services described in the Individual
Plan (IP), in the absence of the House Manager. Receives direction and oversight from Administrator of
Residential Services and Program Coordinator. *NOTE: The nature of this position and the nature of
the services provided by F.C.S., Inc. will require a flexible work schedule.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
1.
Provide supervision to individuals, ensure general ALU coverage, (in accordance with pre-arranged
schedule) and to promote the health and safety of the individuals consistent with Flying Colors of
Success, Inc. policies and COMAR regulations.
2.
To assure that the ALU equipment and surrounding property are safe, clean and in working order.
This is to include, but not limited to, shoveling snow from the walkway, ensuring no tripping
hazards, and reporting maintenance problems.
3.
Provide support and assistance to individuals in establishing their home. Encourage and support
individuals in meeting their nutritional, household management, personal care needs with the
greatest degree of independence and choice. Actively protect individuals’ rights and promote
self-advocacy.
4.
Attend to individuals’ emotional needs by encouraging positive relationships with housemates,
family members, neighbors and friends. Provide daily support and counseling, as needed, to
individuals under both routine and crisis circumstances.
5.
Assist individuals in planning social and leisure activities and promoting community participation.
6.
Implements the programs and services described in the IP. Accurately complete all
necessary documentation, including but not limited to, timesheets, individual data sheets, recreation
leisure logs, incident reports, etc. as directed.
7.
Accurately maintains all documentation as required by standards and agency policy.
8.
Provides supervision, support and direction to other house staff in maintaining day to day
operations as instructed by Administrator of Residential Services and Program Coordinator.
9.
To assist as directed with meal planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, money
management, etc. to assure an effectively run household.
10.
Transportation in agency and/or personal vehicle of individuals to leisure activities, medical
appointments, shopping, etc.
11.
Coordinates and communicates with consultants, family members, agency staff, staff from other
agencies, and community members, in a positive and professional manner.
12.
Accurately maintains records of individuals’ funds and household petty cash as necessary. This
includes accurate documentation of receipts and accountability for money and expenditures.
Will be responsible for using your cell phone and promptly responding to all calls
concerning individuals and/or the agency. This may occur outside of the pre-arranged schedule.

Must be able to physically assist individuals as necessary, this may include, but is not limited to:
assistance with standing/walking, getting in or out of the tub/shower, up off the floor, etc.
Must be able to deal with possible behavioral issues including blocking, redirecting, etc. as in
Behavior Plan.
15.
Must arrive to work with appropriate dress and footwear.
16.
Must maintain medication administration privileges. Responsible for maintaining medications,
Medical documentation, and administration of all medicines in the home.
17.
Other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
1.
Is supervised by the Administrator of Residential Services and Program Coordinator. (May also
receive direction from other Administrative staff.)

Must be able to carry out the duties as outlined above.
Candidate must have own transportation (personal vehicle) and possess a valid driver’s
license.
Must complete State and agency mandated training within 90 days of hire date.
Must complete an agency physical within 30 days of hire and be able to perform all
physical aspects of the job.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities upon
request provide proof of documentation
