The Pool Building Process…

The Design Phase…
DESIGN PHASE: This is the first step in building a swimming pool and the associated
landscaping...This is the stage that you are likely in now. There are many things to
consider. Distance from structures, engineering aspects, style, utility, amenities,
features, cost factors, and feasibilty. Take a look at some examples ... Pools,
Landscaping, 3D designs.
The Permitting Stage…
PERMIT PHASE: Permits take one day to several weeks depending on the
city/county. First a detailed scaled Drawing is prepared. Each jurisdiction has it’s
own requirements from BMPs (Best Management Practices) to required scales and
fonts.
Engineering must be included as well. Some jurisdictions require certain
engineering aspects regardless of the design and situation. Others allow you to
prepare engineering specific the situation and soil conditions.
Layout and Excavation phase …
LAYOUT/EXCAVATION PHASE: We form the pool with wood forms according to our
scaled drawings. We then excavate the pool.
This the time to make any changes to the size and shape. Before the pool is formed
we will paint out the area to scale and if you are available, you can walk around the
area to get a good feel for how the lay-out works for you.
A skilled and experienced pool excavator must be used. This is not just digging a
hole in the ground. Here are many important factors like the bond beam trim, spring
line, shell radius, ad infinitum. A properly dug pool sets the tone for every upcoming
phase.
Rebar (steel reinforcement) Stage…
STEEL PHASE: In this phase we set the rebar in place according to the engineering
sheets for the particular design. The rebar gives the swimming pool its tensile
strength. Many different situations call for different layouts of rebar and rebar
sizing and spacing.
The Plumbing Phase …
PLUMBING PHASE: We place piping for water and electrical in the pool walls. We
pressurize the system and then call for an inspection by the building department.
All accessories are also plumbed at this time including water features and in-floor
cleaning systems.
The Shot-crete Phase …
SHOTCRETE STAGE: Here a dry or wet mix of concrete is shot out of a hose with
force to create the shell of the pool. This is probably the most interesting phase to
watch. Take the day off of work if possible.
The Cure Phase …
CURE PHASE: During this phase the shell will need to be watered down at least
twice daily to slow the curing process. This makes the shell stronger. During this
week to ten-day period we typically will make coping and tile selection.
The Coping/tile Phase …
COPING PHASE: Here we install the coping and any water features or tile that may
be in the design.
The Equipment Set Phase…
EQUIPMENT SET PHASE: During this phase the pumps, filters, lights, and
computers are installed. After they are installed we call for another inspection. We
use Jandy or Pentair equipment and allow you to choose. We have a preference.
Ask us why. We do equipment upgrades as well. Contact us.
The Plaster Phase…
PLASTER PHASE: The plaster, Hydrazzo, or pebble finish is applied and the pool is
filled immediately. Almost time to jump in! We do remodels and re-plasters.
