TOURNAMENT RULES
Team Responsibilities.
1. Upon arriving at the Hiawatha High School gym, please check in at the check in table and wait for further details
on a players meeting.
2. A team must have a minimum of 5 players ready to play 10 minutes before the scheduled game time.
3. Each player on each team must have a BLACK and WHITE shirt for the games. These will be used as jerseys
and will be required to play. Which color you will be wearing for that specific game will be determined at the
beginning of the game.
4. All team members must have registration forms turned in with money paid by January 3rd in order to play.
Playing Rules (Check Rules posted at the tournament in case of changes.)
1. ABSOLUTEY NO ALCOHOL OR TOBACCO USE IN/ON SCHOOL GROUNDS DURING THE
TOURNAMENT. ANYONE CAUGHT USING ALCOHOL OR TOBACCO WILL BE REMOVED
FROM THE PREMISES AND TOURNAMENT IMMEDIATELY.
2. Length of Game will be two 12 minutes halves with a running clock and a two minute half time. Warmups will
be 4 minutes between games but we may adjust the time to stay on schedule. You must be on time for your
scheduled game. IF YOUR TEAM IS NOT PRESENT AT GAME TIME YOU WILL IMMEDIATELY
FORFEIT YOUR GAME. Your team MUST be there at least 10 MINUTES early to ensure the tournament stays
on schedule.
3. Substitutions may be made during any dead ball situation. The official will wave the player(s) onto the court.
4. Game ball: A game ball will be provided for all games.
5. Jump balls: Jump balls will be used to start games and each overtime period.
6. Time-outs. Each team will be permitted one 30 second time-out per half. Time-outs will not be carried over into
overtime period(s). If a team calls for time-out and does not have a time out – Possession will be awarded to the
other team.
7. Scoring is by 2s and 3s
8. Overtime: One, 2 Minute period.
9. ANY PLAYER OR COACH WHO RECEIVES A TECHNICAL FOUL WILL IMMEDIATELY BE
REQUIRED TO LEAVE THE TOURNAMENT AND SCHOOL PROPERTY FOR THE REMAINDER OF
THE EVENT.
10. Any team with a graduating date of or earlier than 2002 will be given a point handicap at the beginning of each
half. To determine the handicap you will take the age of the oldest player and subtract the age of the youngest
player and divide that by two.
11. If teams are not able to come up with 5 members from their graduating class they will be able to join with teams
of graduating classes nearest them, within reason. Ex. Team 2000 has 4 players but needs a 5th. They will be able
to use a player from the graduating class of 1998.
