Organism Classification Project
In-class work days: Wednesday, May 13 and Thursday, May 14
(I will provide iPads and small poster paper)
Due Date: Wednesday, May 20
(You will be presenting in table groups)
Objective: You will make either a poster or a Prezi about your chosen organism
that includes all of the following:
 Common Name(s)
Ex: Human
 Scientific Name - Genus species
Ex: Homo sapien
 Complete classification listing all levels: Kingdom, phylum, class, order,
family, genus, species
EX: Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata, Class Mammalia, Order Primates,
family Homidae, genus Homo, species sapien
 Explanation of why it is classified in that particular Kingdom, Phylum, Class,
Order, Family, Genus, and Species (see p. A55 for example)
o Give specific qualities for each level
EX: Plant kingdom- because it is an autotroph, multicellular, has a cell wall
 List several different subspecies of the animal
EX: Asian, Caucasian, African
 Other organisms that are included in each level of classification (see p. A55
for example)
 Geographic location in the world – Where does this organism live? In all
environments? Certain countries?
 Habitat description
 Size of adult animal
 Number of offspring the organism has in a lifetime (in general)
 Food source
 Unique facts (at least 5)
 Include several pictures of your organism. You may also include pictures that
are related to the information you are providing about your organism.
(Pictures of other organisms in the same class, pictures of the habitat,
etc…) Make sure to include the website you find the pictures!
