Extra! Extra!
The History Channel Magazine has approached YOU in helping to create a special Commemorative Issue on
the 1920’s. They heard about your expertise in the field and that you were the “cat’s pajamas”… obviously.
Your task, as THE “1920’s Insider,” is to create a special insert that provides an overview of the 1920’s for their
Special Commemorative Edition. It is a coveted edition and people cannot wait to get a copy to learn the
inside scoop of what really happened during the 1920’s!
They have asked you to include the following:









“Profiles” on at least FOUR key people from the 1920’s- You need to include WHO this individual was, WHY they
were significant to the 1920’s and a picture of the individual.
An Overview of at least FOUR key topics/events from the 1920’s (you can write these in “Article” form)… think about
key events like presidential elections, the Sacco and Vanzetti Trial, Lindbergh’s flight across the Atlantic, the Scopes
Trial, Prohibition, immigration quotas, Fundamentalism, sports etc. These topics/events must be different you’re
your key people!! Make sure this is in your own words!
A Fashion Section detailing what men and women of the time wore… here’s a good place for some jazzy images!
Don’t forget to include descriptions of the cool attire of the time!
A Music Section that discusses the emergence of jazz and some key artists and songs from the time! Maybe you
could even make an “iTunes Chart” for the1920’s!
A Cultural Section that describes key authors/books from this time-you MUST also discuss the Harlem Renaissance in
this section- as well as any artistic movements of the time. Maybe you could recommend certain titles for an
“Oprah’s Book Club” of sorts…
An Advertisement from the 1920’s (you are going to create this… you could even color it if you wish!) showcasing a
new “invention” or item from the 1920’s. Think about the Model-T, or the radio, or a new book from the ‘20’s (use
mass production/consumerism as inspiration)!
Images- These can even be your own drawings!
