Developing a Script
For this interview, you will be asked to think of a possible banquet theme. When you come in for your
interview, you will begin by telling us your theme and then continue on with presenting the portions of
the script you have written. Our goal is to have you incorporate your chosen theme into the script that
you write to help make it entertaining and fun.
Judging Criteria
You will be rated on the following:

PART ONE:
Construct a part of the script for one of our fictitious top three Outstanding Student Organizations from
the information below. We have included the organization’s name, purpose statement, and three major
activities from their application.
 This part should be limited to 250 words
 Be sure to include everything you deem necessary so that the audience will be entertained and
informed about the winners
 You are encouraged to create other details that you feel will add to your script; be creative, yet
professional in your approach
Outstanding Student Organization: BUCKEYE DAIRY CLUB
Purpose Statement: The club promotes friendship and cooperation between members of the club,
faculty, and people in the dairy industry and is an opportunity for men and women with a shared
interest in areas related to dairy to meet socially and to develop unity and professional relationships.
Farm Science Review Milkshake Stand
Every year, Farm Science Review is held in London, Ohio. Buckeye Dairy Club members participate in
making and selling milkshakes to make money for the club. In 2009, FSR was a special one when Buckeye
Dairy Club, Ohio Dairy Producers Association, and American Dairy Association joined together to build
the Ohio Dairy Industry center.
Buckeye Royal Showmanship Contest
This contest is open to all students on campus, including Dairy Club members. It is an opportunity for
students who are not from a dairy background to see, understand, and experience dairy cattle and try
their hand at showing dairy cattle. Participants practice handling and showing their animals for two
weeks prior to the contest. For experienced show participants, the show is an opportunity to compete
with other experienced people and sharpen their skills. The club also prepares food and refreshments
for participants, club members, and contest viewers.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing
Dairy Club members volunteer to ring bells to raise money for the Salvation Army before Christmas.
BDC Holiday Dinner and Career Fair
This activity is fairly new for the Dairy Club. At the end of fall, a holiday dinner is prepared and each class
brings a specific dish to share. As a club, we invite four to five companies within the dairy industry to join
us. This is a fantastic opportunity for Dairy Club members to meet dairy industry professionals, share
their resume, and hopefully secure a possibility for an internship or a job.
ADSA
The American Dairy Science Association-Student Affiliated Division (ADSA-SAD) has an undergraduate
convention every year for dairy clubs throughout the mid-west. Buckeye Dairy Club members and
advisors participate in farm tours, seminars, the annual meeting, quiz bowl, and many other fun
activities and events during ADSA.
Buckeye Classic Sale
This sale is annually run and managed by club members, from the selections of heifers and embryos to
tending for sale animals during Spring Dairy Expo. The sale is an excellent learning experience as well as
a fundraiser and promoter for Dairy Club.
Dairy Challenge
Dairy Challenge provides the opportunity for undergraduates at The Ohio State University to experience
the process of evaluating management practices on a dairy farm and to interact with representatives in
the dairy industry.
Milk a Cow on the Oval
In Spring 2009, Buckeye Dairy Club introduced this fundraiser to campus. This past year, the Ayars family
of Land of Living Farms in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, brought one of their Guernsey cows to the south oval of
Ohio State's campus and students were able to try their hand at milking "Buckeye Bessie". The club
asked for donations to milk the cow and all proceeds went to Heifer International, a non-profit
organization that gives meat and milk producing animals to families in need within third world countries.
Dairy Club members also passed out literature about the dairy industry and string cheese to those who
donated money! This fundraiser was supported by the American Dairy Association Mideast and the
American Jersey Cattle Association. It was a great opportunity for non-rural students to get exposure to
a dairy cow and learn about the dairy industry. Also, the club members benefited from being able to be
advocates for the industry to others around campus while supporting a worthwhile charity.
