AD for Faculty Resources and Scheduling

Personnel Issues
Apply University and CLAS policies and procedures relating to faculty (regular &
adjunct) and staff (APs)
Negotiate contracts on phased retirement, maternity leave, alternate teaching, and
joint appointment
Liaison with CLAS Personnel Committee, Associate Vice President for Academic
Affairs (Jellema), and HRO
Apply and explicate University human resource policies
Oversee recruitment and hiring of faculty and staff, especially adjunct faculty
(visitors, affiliates, part-time); address needs for replacement faculty (leaves of
absence-paid or unpaid)
Conduct the College processes for complaints and grievances by or relating to
faculty, APs and COTs
Interpret, apply and explicate the Faculty Handbook
Liaison with Brooks/Honors re: personnel
Liaison with CLAS Affiliate Advisory Committee

Course Schedule Development and Management
Liaison with the Admissions Office, with University-wide recruitment and admissions
committees, and with Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (Godwin)
Establish budget for Spring/Summer schedule
Ensure sufficient sections and seats to accommodate anticipated demand, especially
during Freshman Orientation & Registration
Manage low-enrolled courses
Perform other duties pertaining to Faculty Resources and Scheduling as needed

Faculty Governance
Coordinate with CLAS Governance Elections
Liaison to CLAS Faculty Council

Oversee Digital Measures for CLAS

CLAS Communications
Lead college communication strategies, analysis and projects to increase the efficacy of
communication efforts, including web content, social media, speech development, and print and
electronic publications for the promotion of CLAS faculty, staff, and student achievements and events.
 CLAS Web site Management/Development and assistance to CLAS web masters
 Produce Quadrennial Report and interim annual reports
 Liaison with GVSU Web Team
 Development of the news stories and profiles for use in all communications
 Produce CLAS Acts faculty e-Newsletter
 Provide liaison with Institutional Marketing, the Lanthorn, and News & Information Services in
coordination with the Dean on media enquiries, event promotion, and public relations.
 Speech drafting and occasionally represent CLAS as speaker
 Coordinates and writes all CLAS social media (Alumni FaceBook page, @CLASComm)
 Triage general inquiries via the web site to clas@gvsu.edu
 Tailored dissemination of news clips
 Off-campus PR initiatives (liaison with Alumni Relations, News & Information Services, and
Institutional Marketing)
 On-campus public information initiatives
 Assistance with major College documents such as Strategic Plan and Inclusion Plan.
 Promotion of Special Events
 Conduct annual request of graduating seniors re: their future plans
 Coordination of Mindgating (CLAS Homecoming activities)
