NOTING OF DECISIONS MADE ON MONDAY 9 NOVEMBER 2015 ON ITEMS CONSIDERED
BY THE CURRICULUM COMMITTEE BY WAY OF A CIRCULAR
1. PROPOSALS FOR NEW UNIVERSITY PRIZES
Members noted that in accordance with the University Policy on Prizes the Curriculum Committee was
responsible for the establishment, amendment or rescission of undergraduate prizes for pass or honours
degree courses. The prize conditions for the following prizes had been received from the Prizes Unit and the
Committee had been asked to consider and establish these prizes:
1.1. J AND D PRICE PRIZE – REF F72989
Members noted that at its meeting held on 9th September 2015, the Committee had considered proposed
conditions to establish the J and D Price Prize. During its deliberations, it had been agreed that the
proposed conditions had been too restrictive and might, inadvertently, exclude students enrolling mid-year or
on a part-time basis. The Albany Centre had been asked to review the conditions.
Attached for members’ consideration was a redrafted set of prize conditions to better align with the donors
intent of awarding to a student in their second academic year, and bearing in mind the Committee’s feedback
to broaden the cohort wherever possible.
RESOLVED – 160/15
that the Curriculum Committee approve:
(i) the establishment of the J and D Price Prize in accordance with the prize conditions as attached to
the circular;
(ii) the management of the J and D Price Prize by the Albany Centre; and
(iii) the awarding of the J and D Price Prize for the first time in 2016 to the 2015 academic year.
1.2. AA Kingsley Memorial Honours Prize in Engineering - REF F76147
Members considered the proposed prize conditions for the AA Kingsley Memorial Honours Prize in
Engineering, copies of which were attached to the circular. Members noted that in accordance with the
University Policy on Prizes, the minimum value for a prize at the honours degree course level was $1,500,
which would be met by a 2% or higher annual income after capitalisation on the capital sum of $75,000
provided by the donor.
RESOLVED – 161/15
that the Curriculum Committee approve:
(i) the establishment of the AA Kingsley Memorial Honours Prize in Engineering in accordance with the
prize conditions as attached to the circular;
(ii) the management of the AA Kingsley Memorial Honours Prize in Engineering by the Faculty of
Engineering, Computing and Mathematics; and
(iii) the awarding of the AA Kingsley Memorial Honours Prize in Engineering for the first time in 2016 to
the 2015 academic year.
1.3. JEAN CALLANDER ART PRIZE – REF F76402
Members considered the proposed prize conditions for the Jean Callander Art Prize, copies of which were
attached to the circular. Members noted that, although the prize was funded from a capital sum of $900,000
provided by the donor, the $9,000 prize would be offered for a set period of 40 years 2015 – 2055 academic
years with an increase in value of 10% every five years. Members also noted that after the fortieth award,

(i) the establishment of the Jean Callandar Art Prize in accordance with the prize conditions as
attached to the circular agenda;
(ii) the management of the Jean Callandar Art Prize by the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and
Visual Arts;
(iii) the awarding of the Jean Callandar Art Prize for the first time in 2016 to the 2015 academic year;
and
(iv) that the prize will be rescinded after being awarded for the fortieth time (to the 2055 cohort) and the

Members also noted that each year a comprehensive curriculum change process was undertaken that
involved all faculties modifying and improving the curriculum to ensure our students receive the very best
education. This process involved the development and modification of new and current courses and units
and the rescindment of courses and units that were no longer needed.
Members noted that Academic Policy Services provided a consolidated summary of UWA Curriculum for
