Pathogen Wanted: Poster/Research Project
For this last research project you will be investigating one of the pathogens on the
accompanying list of nasties! After doing the requisite research you will be
producing a “Wanted” poster. Learn something new, have some fun and be
creative.
Project Description:
Make a poster for your chosen pathogen (no two students will be doing the same
pathogen/disease). Poster is to be on standard 8.5” x 11” paper with a title and
mug shot on the front. A detailed description should be on the back. If you need
more room for the descriptive portion you may staple an additional piece of paper.

Mug shot – (5 points)
a. Photo may be hand drawn, a picture from the internet or from a
magazine or book, etc. If it is not hand drawn it must be properly cited.
Description of Suspect – (10 points)
a. Is it a virus, bacteria or other parasite? Identify it properly.
b. What does it look like?
c. What are the defining characteristics used to identify it?
Organisms mode of operation (m.o.) – (5 points)
a. How does this illness spread?
b. How does it attack victim/infect?
Most common victims preyed upon – (10 points)
“Hide out” of the culprit – (5 points)
a. Where is the suspect most likely to be found?
b. What body systems does it primarily affect?
Most common injury done to victim – (5 points)
a. What are the victim’s symptoms?
b. How does the disease progress, untreated?
Is it considered ‘armed and dangerous’? – (5 points)
a. Rate the degree of danger/damage to the victim.
b. Morbidity rate?
c. Mortality rate?
Number of victims, ages most affected, sex most affected, etc – (5 points)
Most effective weapons against the pathogen – (5 points)
a. Course of treatment for the disease?
b. Is there a cure?
Any other identifying characteristics – (5 points)
Citations: You will need at least five separate sources (APA format) for this research project. As always, do not list any
wikis in your bibliography. Focus on reputable sources such as those with suffixes like ‘.edu’ or ‘.gov’ rather than ‘.com’
sites. Please include this complete bibliography with your project. (10 points)
