Solar Cooker Report

( 1 ) The solar cooker design I chose is a basic solar cooker design which is basically a
cone wrapped in around with aluminum foil from the inside and cardboard from the
outer part. The reason why we decided to chose this design because so that when the
sun hits all around it can collect the heat from the top and tap the heat at the bottom of
the cone, also we had put a hole on the bottom of the solar cooker so that it can hold
the cup or beaker which will be carrying the water which is be heated. I found this
design really attractive and that it can do a really good job to heat water or anything that
needs to be cooked.
( 2 ) The solar cooker is a very good method and it is also built really easly . this solar
cooker was buily by finding a large peice of cardboard and then making the cardboard
into a cone shape by rolling it up and taping it to stay together so that the solar cooker
does not fall apart. Next throughout all of the inside of the cone almunimum foil was
wrapped on all sides of the solar cooker so that it can absorb the heat and reflect it off
towards the water making it hotter , at the end there was a spot which was meant to
hold the object in this case the beaker at place. Chillanges that my group faced was that
the wind kept knocking down the solar cooker and it dident balance enough so it also
couldent stand up straight , we overcame this problem by putting more weight on the
bottom giving it more weight on the bottom so it can balance out .
(4 ) On the day of the test our solar cooker did not work the way we had thought it
would. There was no sun that hit our solar cooker well enough for it to heat the water
another 10 degrees celius. Also it wasent that warm it was quite windy and our solar
cooker had flipped over so all the water spilled. The chart below shows the time and
what tempreture the water had reached . ( water temp vs time )
TIME
WATER TEMPERATURE
0
10 minutes
20 minutes
25 degrees celsius
23 degrees Celsius
20 degrees celsius
30 minutes
18 degrees celsius
Conclusion : In conclusion our cooker design was not really successfull , we could have
improved our design by adding plastic wrap or a mirrior on to of the cone so that when
the sun rays hit it would refract through the mirrior, it will hit the object and the heat
causing the temperature. Therefore I feel that this design will work better if it was
warmer and there was more of a sunny day , less windy.
