The Business Liaison/Career Counselor….
 Provides leadership, as directed by the Principal, for the career counseling
program at Valley Academy;
 Establishes and implements a career center strategic plan, including shortand long-term goals, objectives, policies, benchmarks and operating
procedures;
 Submits a career strategic plan to the Principal by August 24, 2015;
 Meets with Principal on a weekly basis, providing a written plan for the week
and summarizing previous week’s work;
 Maintains, and makes available, a detailed calendar of all events and
appointments;
 Collaborates with faculty, administrators, and campus departments to
identify, define, and meet student career planning and placement needs,
goals, objectives;
 Develops and oversees marketing strategies and resources to identify and
bring recruiters and potential employers to campus;
 Develops career services and career counseling approaches for changing
student populations including minority students, non-traditional students,
and returning students;
 Provides individual and group counseling and career direction services to
students;
 Assists students in selecting college course work appropriate to their skill
levels and career and academic goals;
 Develops and oversees all student exploration of careers for freshmen, job
shadowing for sophomores, internships and apprenticeships for juniors and
seniors;
 Supervises the acquisition, maintenance, and dissemination of information
regarding career fields, employment opportunities, and specific employers
for full-time part-time, internship, and work-study opportunities;
 Compiles data from a variety of sources for the purpose of evaluating
program success and/or complying with financial, legal, administrative, and
federal monitoring requirements;
 Evaluates program success for the purpose of modifying and/or enhancing
program structure and meeting mandated requirements;










Prepares a wide variety of manual and electronic reports and materials
(program mandated and funding reports, brochures, mailers) for the purpose
of communicating with staff, students, and community, and complying with
program requirements;
Provides academic advising services to undecided students;
Develops and oversees all faculty externships;
Develops and directs programs and services designed to equip students and
future alumni with necessary job search skills and employment preparation
strategies;
Designs and coordinates a variety of events, programs, and presentations
(student assessments, classroom presentations, career fairs, career day, field
trips, student placement and follow-up, teacher and counselor in-services,
self esteem programs, etc.) for the purpose of supporting a smooth transition
from middle school to high school and from high school to post-secondary
opportunities (college, employment, military, training);
Develops relationships and serves as liaison with post-secondary
institutions, employers, community leaders, and organizations for the
purpose of building resources and expanding program opportunities for
eligible students;
Participates in all meetings, workshops, and committees (community
organizations, advisory committee, district in-service, etc) for the purpose of
conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions
and remaining knowledgeable of program guidelines;
Represents the Yadkin Valley Regional Career Academy to various on- and
off-campus groups including the faculty, media, student government,
employees and/or the general public;
Signs-in and out daily
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering,
hearing, talking, and repetitive motions. While performing the responsibility of this
job the employee is regularly expected to stand and walk and sometimes has to
stoop, kneel, or crouch. • Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10
pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or
constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
