GARY C. WANG
Office of the Under Secretary of Defense
(Intelligence)
Gary Wang was appointed in January 2012 as Director,
Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance
Infrastructure Division, Office of the Deputy Under
Secretary of Defense (Intelligence Strategy, Programs and
Resources), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for
Intelligence. He is responsible for executive oversight of
numerous programs with intelligence capabilities across the
armed services and defense agencies.
Gary Wang served as a member of the Senior Executive Service since 2005, at the Space
and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) as Director of Corporate Operations
and Command Information Officer (CIO). Mr. Wang formerly served as SPAWAR’s
Science and Technology national competency lead and the Chief Technology Officer
(CTO) and Director of the Science, Technology and Engineering Department at
SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific, his responsibilities included coordination of scientific
and technical programs for the Center, and the technical authority in directing the
formulation of future technical alternatives to satisfy military requirements and the
transition of technology into Naval capabilities for the fleet.
Mr. Wang began his federal career in 1983 at the Naval Underwater Systems Center as a
project engineer on the MK-48 Advanced Capability torpedo program. From 1988 to
2004, he served in several managerial positions at SPAWAR. From 2001 to 2004, he
was Program Manager for Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Information
Operations (ISR/IO), responsible for development and acquisition of Navy cryptologic,
meteorological, operational effects, and intelligence programs.
Mr. Wang also served as Executive Assistant for Information Technology at the Program
Executive Office for Space Communications and Sensors, Division Director for
Technology Transition, and Assistant Program Manager for Combat Direction Finding.
Prior to that, he served as a test and evaluation director and software manager for signals
intelligence programs.
Mr. Wang earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the
University of Texas at Austin in 1983. He has also earned two Special Act Awards, and
three Navy Superior Civilian Service Awards.
