Purpose
Responsible for the provision of a high performance development program and coaching
services to targeted WAIS athletes with the goal of developing and preparing athletes to
perform at the level to gain selection into the National High Performance program, whilst
actively contributing to the WAIS values of People and Excellence.
(note: refers to WAIS salary scale, not remuneration)
In consultation with the Head Coach, Performance Team Director and Joint Management
Committee (JMC), the primary focus of the role is:

To contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of a high
performance sport development program;

To assist with the development, delivery and coaching of the daily training
environment for WAIS athletes, within a sport program, with the objective to:

Achieve agreed athlete national program representation targets;

Achieve optimal national performances, laying the foundations for positive
performances at senior international level;

Achieve agreed athlete progression and development targets;

Support and enable athlete wellbeing and personal excellence.

Person Specification – Success Profile:
Qualifications

Preferably Cycling Australia Level II accreditation or equivalent with relevant experience.
Coaches with Level I accreditation will be considered.
Knowledge

Knowledge and understanding of the techniques and methods for developing athletes
from junior to international level;

Up to date with current trends in coaching science and practice;

Clear understanding of athlete preparation pathway requirements for national team
selection;

Understanding of appropriate sports science services and resources which can be
leveraged to enhance athlete performance.


Knowledge of Cycling Australia’s key performance targets and strategies;
Knowledge and understanding of the national elite sport network, structure and systems.

Coaching, developing, motivating and empowering others;

Effective communication to engage, consult, liaise and influence management,
colleagues, partners, athletes and parents;

Ability to assist with planning , coordinating and driving the implementation of athlete
high performance plans;

Building partnerships;

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team as well as autonomously;

Building talent.

Successful coaching at national or international level team ( program coach, assistant
coach or specialist coach);

Participation in a high performance support team to actively and collectively contribute to
the high performance and personal excellence development of athletes;

Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and lead an international standard coaching
and training program which meets the needs of potential international and developing
international athletes;

Designing, executing and evaluating training and competition programs to guide the
development of talented athletes;

Demonstrated ability to identify, attract and retain talented athletes.

Has a respected reputation and standing as an authority in their sport nationally and/or
internationally.
