The Discovery of King Tut Exhibition
will make its Great Lakes Region Debut at the
Grand Rapids Public Museum
Explore the wonders of the boy pharaoh’s tomb spring 2015
Grand Rapids, Michigan: The Grand Rapids Public Museum (GRPM) announced today
that the much anticipated exhibition, The Discovery of King Tut, will make its Great
Lakes Region debut here on May 16, 2015. Visitors will experience what it was like for
Howard Carter and his team when they first discovered the tomb of Tutakhamun in
1922.
Featuring more than 1,000 scientifically produced recreations hand-crafted by Egyptian
artisans, The Discovery of King Tut recreates the awe and marvel of the moment of
discovery. Visitors enter an overwhelming treasure trove to have an unbelievable
glimpse into the greatest archeological discovery of the 20th century: Tutankhamun’s
tomb.
“We are pleased to premier this remarkable exhibit in the Great Lakes region,” said
Dale Robertson, President and CEO of the GRPM. “The story of King Tut has fascinated
the world since the discovery of his tomb in 1922. This exhibition presents the
excavation itself as it was at the very moment it was revealed to the public.”
Through a partnership with Semmel Concerts GmbH ("Semmel"), Premier
Exhibitions, Inc. has brought the exhibition to North America, making its third stop
on its U.S. tour in Grand Rapids at the GRPM. This exhibition uniquely allows the
public to enjoy the magnificent splendor of these priceless Egyptian treasures
without ever harming the fragile, sensitive originals – many of which are no longer
permitted to tour outside of Egypt.
Tickets for The Discovery of King Tut will be on sale this coming spring. Museum members
will receive discounted admission. Visit grpm.org for more information.
