The Calloway County School District has received the highest label given by the Kentucky Department of
Education—District of Distinction—based on the recently-released accountability data for the 2014-15
school year. This is the fourth consecutive year the district has been labeled Distinguished. CCSD scored
in the 98th state percentile, ranked 3rd out of all county districts, and also received the exceptional
recognition of High Progress District. Every school in the district saw an increase in achievement over
last year’s scores.
Calloway County Superintendent Tres Settle announced, “I am exceedingly pleased with the academic
performance of our students and the obvious effort that they exerted to post these impressive scores.
The 2015 assessment results serve merely as validation to the outstanding commitment of teachers,
staff, and community leadership that I have witnessed in my early days as superintendent of Calloway
County Schools.”
For the third year in a row, Calloway County High School earned a School of Distinction rating, this year
with a Distinguished/Progressing label. Said principal Randy McCallon, "I am extremely proud of the
assessment performance here at Calloway County High School by our students. There is much work to
do and a desire to continue to improve each and every year. However, it is a great pleasure to know that
last year’s senior class left us prepared well for college and career options.”
Southwest Elementary earned a rating of Distinguished/Progressing- School of Distinction, scoring in the
98th state percentile. Principal Josh McKeel said, “Southwest Elementary is very proud and excited about
the results of the KPREP assessments. The dedication and hard work of our staff, students, parents, and
volunteers have resulted in this outstanding achievement. We will continue to maintain high
expectations for all and to strive daily to love our students as if they were our own children.”
East Elementary moved from Proficient to a rating of Distinguished/Progressing-High Performing School.
Principal Kathy Crouch commented, “East Elementary is so excited to be a Distinguished/ProgressingHigh Performing School. Teachers and students worked diligently, staying focused on the core content
and striving to increase academic knowledge and skills.”
North Elementary’s achievement also increased from Proficient to the Distinguished/Progressing-High
Performing School category. Principal Melinda Hendley said, “Making the step into the Distinguished
category is an exciting step at North Elementary. This is a goal that we have focused on over the past
few years. I feel that this goal has been reached due to the dedication to individual student growth from
the students themselves, parent support and teacher dedication.”
Calloway County Middle School earned the designation of Proficient/Progressing. Principal Amy Turner
noted, "We are proud of the progress that is being made at CCMS. The teachers are working hard to
provide challenging and engaging lessons to our students. These efforts are showing up in our scores, as
we have added the Progressing label to our Proficient score. The hard work of the students, teachers,
support staff, and community results in having more students ready for the challenges of high school
and beyond.”
Superintendent Settle added, "It is my sincere hope that this entire community can recognize through
these results the pride and effort that our staff put into teaching tomorrow’s leaders. In Calloway
County Schools, students are not just learning how to read, write, add, and subtract, they are learning
how to think, to problem solve, and most importantly, to dream.”
