Meeting on FCC dump systems

Update on FCC extraction straight optics (L. Stoel):













Reminder: updated separation between dump block and circulating beam  20m.
Two options with:
o MKDv and MKDh
o MKDh and MKDv
Extraction straight layout with 3.5 cells length shown. Length and drifts for extraction can be
optimized.
Optics requirements reminder: low beta at the kickers (below 200m), high beta (above 400m)
at the protection elements, not too high beta at the quads due to aperture limitations. To be
matched to the arc on both sides.
Hardware parameters: 0.13 mrad (MKD) and 1.6 mrad (MSD), kicker apertures: 23.1 and 36.9
mm.
Phase advance (Position) and size of protection elements to be studied.
Thickness of the TCDS to be evaluated.
QFR for quad to be evaluated.
Influence of beam size at the protection elements to be studied.
Influence of a massless septum to be studied – also concerning quadrupole components.
Maybe SF septum – iteration on septum parameters next year.
Input for geometry of dump line – MKDs / MKBs need a gallery to keep radiation levels to
electronics low.
Beginning of next year: Iteration on MKB parameters and dump line optics.
Damage table (F. Burkart):



Example for damage table for FCC extraction with element name, probability for failure,
number of bunches, particle energy, beam size, bunch separation, impact parameter and turnby-turn losses.
Parameters to be evaluated.
To be checked with FLUKA if additional parameters are needed.
