CROATIA SELF-DRIVE (8 days) 2014
DAY 1: DUBROVNIK
Arrive Dubrovnik, transfer to hotel. Dubrovnik is known as the “Jewel of Croatia”. This medieval
city is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and sits atop a rocky peninsula which juts into the
sparkling Adriatic. Secluded bays and coves offer the perfect getaway. The old town is the
ultimate expression of architectural, artistic and cultural masterpieces. The huge walls are still
intact. The churches, monasteries, palaces, wide marble paved squares, steep cobble-stepped
streets and tall private houses have remained unchanged for centuries.
Overnight: Dubrovnik
DAY 2: DUBROVNIK
Explore Dubrovnik on your own or pre-book a tour. We suggest a visit to the elegant resort of
Cavtat, 20 km from Dubrovnik. Cavtat has a spectacular setting and landscape, and a great
variety of cultural monuments and treasures. The sun-drenched beaches and beautiful seas
compliment the cultural experience, making Cavtat an ideal holiday spot.
Overnight: Dubrovnik (B)
DAY 3: DUBROVNIK - SPLIT
Collect your rental car (Dubrovnik Downtown office). Explore Dubrovnik further or drive to Split.
We suggest a visit to Korcula, the alleged birthplace of the famous seafarer Marco Polo. Korcula
is blessed with centuries-old turrets, mansions, cathedrals, museums and narrow stone streets.
Overnight: Split (B)
DAY 4: SPLIT
Explore Split on your own or pre-book a tour. Split is one of the sunniest cities in Europe. Many
of Split’s historical and cultural buildings can be found within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace. In
addition, numerous museums, the National Theatre, old churches and other archeological sites in
the Split region are important cultural attractions. There are many beaches in the city and its
surroundings; the most popular is Bacvice, a sandy beach almost in the very heart of town.
Within easy ferry access are the islands of Hvar, famous for its purple lavender fields, and Brac,
blessed with a unique beach known as The Golden Cape.
Overnight: Split (B)
DAY 5: SPLIT - PLITVICE
Explore Split further or drive to Plitvice. We suggest that you drive via Trogir, a medieval city
founded by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Trogir is
famous for its beautiful Venetian Gothic stone buildings, cultural and historical monuments, art
and architecture. You should also not miss Zadar, fascinating to all those who respect historical
monuments. If time permits, we suggest an afternoon hike of the Plitvice upper lakes.
Overnight: Plitvice (B)
DAY 6: PLITVICE - ZAGREB
The Plitvice Lakes National Park consists of sixteen crystal clear interlinked lakes. The lakes offer
some of the most beautiful natural sights in Europe, with cascading waterfalls during summer,
snow-covered and frozen during winter. Along the lakes are more than 80 km of paths offering
nature lovers a great diversity of plants and animals. Depart for Zagreb and drop off your rental
car.
Overnight: Zagreb (B)
DAY 7: ZAGREB
This city is full of beautiful buildings, monuments and open-hearted, hospitable people. Explore
