Using Clicker and Solo 6
with 3rd Grade Student
How Can These Enrich A
Student’s Life?
Success of Student using
Assistive Technology
S- Student and Characteristics
Isabella is an eight year old 3rd grade student who has
auditory processing disorder and learning disabilities.
She is in an integrated co-teaching classroom and also
receives one on one teaching assistance. She is currently
reading at a level H text but enjoys reading and listening
to more complex stories. She also enjoys writing and
sharing her ideas but her hand writing is difficult for
others to read and she becomes frustrated by spelling out
words.
These Assistive Technologies can
enrich a student’s life in many ways.
With regards to reading the
electronically read texts can help
them to access grade level materials.
Read Out Loud will read electronic
text to the student. This helps make
common core curriculum accessible
that otherwise wouldn’t be.
E- Environment/Background

•
She is a 3rd grade student who has a one on one aide
throughout her school day. She offers her a lot of support
and with writing and reading will often do the activities for
her.
She does not use any assistive technology. If a reading
passage is too difficult her one on one aide will read it to
her. Similarly, if the writing is too difficult her one on one
aide will scribe for her.
Isabella was a hesitant reader and writer
because they were difficult for her. She
wasn’t able to access Common Core
curriculum without one on one teaching
support. Through the use of Clicker and
SOLO 6 and minimal support she was
able to read and write using grade level
materials. She enjoyed using the
technologies and was more engaged.
Below are pictures which show the
success she achieved by using these
technologies.
Before writing with Clicker and SOLO 6
She will be given a computer with clicker and SOLO 6
software to help her to be more independent.
T- Tasks/Objectives
Clicker and SOLO 6 can be used to
assist a student in their writing.
SOLO 6 has Co Writer which is a
word prediction software which
assists students in spelling more
independently. Clicker and Clicker
Sets can be used with programming
to allow the student to also be more
independent. They can reach the
common core writing goals with the
support of these softwares.

Make curriculum more accessible to Isabella through the
use of assistive technology in order to be more independent
in her learning.
Be able to do grade level reading and writing activities with
more independence. Using ReadOutLoud she was able to
control the computer at her own pace to read grade level
texts. She used CoWriter and Clicker to write without
needing a scribe or to ask how to spell most words.
