1.
What are some examples of environmental issues?
Air pollution, Water pollution, Land pollution, Acid rain, Deforestation,
Desertification, Flooding, etc.
2. What types of human interaction with the environment causes water pollution?
Littering, Oil Spills, Industrial Waste, Chemical Waste, Human waste(sewage), dead
animals, and dead people.
3. Littering, oil spills, industrial waste, chemical waste, human waste (sewage), dead animals.
What types of pollution causes this type of waste? OR What causes water pollution?
4. How does water pollution and the unequal distribution of water impact irrigation and drinking
water?
Water pollution will kill crops and contaminate the soil. Pollution will hurt or kill
people if the drinking water is polluted. Unequal distribution of water makes it hard
to irrigate and limits people’s options for water.
5. How does water pollution and the unequal distribution of water impact industry and trade?
The fishing industry is gone down because the water pollution killed all the fish.
Limits the types of trade that can be done.
6. What are the causes of pollution on the Yangtze and Ganges Rivers?
Raw Sewage, dead animals, pesticides, littering, industrial waste, and dead people
7. What are the effects of pollution on the Yangtze and Ganges Rivers?
Diseases, death, loss of fishing industries, people getting sick
8. What are the causes of air pollution in India and China?
industries (factories burning coal), cars, mines
9.
What are the effects of air pollution in India and China?
Smog, diseases, death, hard to grow crops, smells bad, hard to breathe, not able to
work, kids can't go play outside, filthy, grime everywhere; go to school dirty, etc.
10. What are the causes of flooding in India and China?
Overflowing rivers, weather such as too much rain, rains brought from monsoons,
possibly from too much sewage
11. What are the effects of flooding in India and China?
Destruction of homes/property, can fish in more places, kills crops, famine, drink
polluted water: people get diseases, dehydration, food prices get higher.
12. What is Population Distribution?
Is the pattern of where people live in a certain area
13. Describe where most people live in Southern and Eastern Asia and describe why they live
there.
Most people live in warmer, milder climate areas with fertile farmland. When the climate is
harsher, less people will live in the area.
14. Describe why most people do not live in near mountains and deserts in Southern and Eastern
Asia.
They do not live near the mountains because it is too cold. They do not live near the deserts
because it is too hot. They live near the river and other water areas because it provides
good farm land, jobs, and transportation.
15. If people are burning coal and wood, what type of pollution are they doing to the
environment?
Air pollution
16. Do India and China have a lot of laws that protect the pollution issues that exist in these
countries?
No
17. How has India’s plan to develop more industry end up creating problems along the Ganges
River?
The factories polluted the rivers with chemicals. People also live near where they work,
population increases, and people help to pollute the river as well.
18. What is the Brown Cloud?
The Asian brown cloud is a layer of air pollution that covers parts of South Asia
and Eastern Asia.
19. What happens when all of the oxygen is taken out of the rivers?
The fish die
20. What does not slow down because of economic growth of a country?
Pollution
21. True or False
Acid rain is not dangerous to the environment.
False
Acid rain causes acidification of lakes and streams and contributes to the damage of
trees at high elevations and many sensitive forest soils. In addition, acid rain
accelerates the decay of building materials and paints, including irreplaceable
buildings, statues, and sculptures that are part of our nation's cultural heritage. acid
rain contribute to visibility degradation and harm public health.
22. True or False
The Ganges River flows after it leave India and into the country of Japan.
False
Bangladesh
23. True or False
India’s urban areas are having problems with air pollution because of the rapid growth, heavy
industry, and thousands of automobiles.
True
24. True or False
India currently has a larger population than China.
