DoE Teen Thursdays Instructor—Education
(Part-time, temporary, non-union covered position)
Summary:
This Instructor will teach Teen Thursdays, a NYC Department ot Education partnership program
that pairs middle schools with cultural institution partners for after-school programs linking
American history and museum collections.
Requirements:
Individual must have a BA in art history, studio art, or a related discipline and two to three years of
museum education experience. This dynamic Instructor will have experience teaching ages 11-13,
American history, and art-making in a museum setting; as well as have experience with diverse
audiences. Excellent teaching and organizational skills are essential. Individual must have
experience developing lesson plans.
Responsibilities
This Instructor will be responsible for teaching DoE Teen Thursdays as well as attending planning
meetings with school partner. Specific programmatic responsibilities include designing and
teaching curriculum which includes a focus on American history as seen through the works in the
Brooklyn Museum's collection and exhibitions, collecting student sign-in sheets and student
feedback forms, documenting through photographs or other means the learning experienced;
providing timely and periodic feedback to Manager and school partner; assisting with completion
of short evaluation at conclusion of program.
Reports to: Youth and Family Programs Manager
Starting date: February 1, 2016
End date: June 30, 2016
Schedule: 7 Thursdays, October-December, 3-6 pm; if renewed, 7 Thursdays February-May, 3-6
pm; at least one planning meeting per cycle; two research afternoons per cycle 3-6 pm; 3
hours/week with maximum of 14 weeks plus planning and research
Salary: $155/class, $155/partner meeting (3 hours); $50/research afternoon (3 hrs)
