Dear Parents,
It was a busy (and exciting) week for Petrides students and their families . . .
Our High School SING! competition was quite entertaining! Bravo to all the students who got
involved, including script writers, directors, actors, artists, musicians and dancers. And,
congratulations to the Smorz on their win.
High School Habitaters worked with Ms. Brancaccio and class 522 to create a Tree of Peace and
Love. On Thursday, members of the class wrote their hopes for peace and love, which became
the leaves on this very special tree.
Parents (and grandparents) joined in the festivities as our Pre K students celebrated with an
International Food Festival on Tuesday afternoon. And, others joined Ms. Cabrera and her
Italian classes for caroling and Mr. Brown and Ms. Held (Spanish classes) as they made maracas
to celebrate the holiday season.
Scores of students performed, in our annual Winter Concert, for family and friends who gathered
to hear the sounds of the season. The hard work and daily practice of our talented musicians was
evident during the spectacular show.
Our 3rd grade classrooms were crowed with Fathers, Uncles, Dads, Grandpas and Everyone
special in the lives of our students as we celebrated our annual FUDGE Day today! Family
members of 2nd grades visited to help make winter crafts, including “Olaf” snowmen. And, our
Middle School students enjoyed our annual Holiday Sweet Feast by sampling festive treats and
dancing the afternoon away!
Elementary School Recess
Our gymnasium floor has recently been treated with a coat of polyurethane. In order to maintain
our gym floor, we will only allow rubber soled shoes in the gym. During the inclement weather,
students may be using the gymnasium for indoor recess. We advise you to send your child to
school in rubber soled shoes daily if they would like to participate in physical activity during this
time.
Regarding ARIS Parent Link
Please note that the ARIS Parent Link will become inactive on 12/31/2014. ARIS is being
replaced by a new system which will be in place by September 2015. Until the new system is in
place, our middle and high school parents can access student performance/progress data for their
child in Pupil Path. Parents can also request their child's information from their assistant
Principal. More details about this transition will be forthcoming.
Kindergarten Enrollment (September 2015)
The Kindergarten application window opens January 7, 2015 and will be available through
February 13th. Parents with children entering Kindergarten in September 2015 may apply online by visiting www.nyc.gov/schools/kindergarten, in person at the Family Welcome Center in
Building A of the Petridis Campus, or over the phone by calling (718) 935-2400.
If you currently have a child in grades K through 4 at Petridis, the child entering Kindergarten in
September 2015 will be considered a sibling, and therefore offered a seat here. Please note:
sibling status is not applied to brothers/sisters of middle and high school students.
All students entering Kindergarten in September, including siblings of current Petrides
Elementary School students must complete the city-wide application through the process
described above.
If you need assistance with the process, please contact Rosemary Kyle, Main Office Manager, at
(718) 815-0186.
