JOB DESCRIPTION

Technical Assistant – Popular Music
(Part Time)
Responsible to:
Course Leader for Popular Music /
Programme Area Director
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST
Under the direction of the Course Leader for Popular Music and the Director for The
programme area, the post holder will provide technical support in popular music and
across the wider programme area.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST
 Maintain rehearsal rooms, musical equipment and instruments to facilitate lessons,
extra-curricular music sessions and college performances
 provide musical and technical support for both staff and students with the use of
equipment and instruments in lessons
 ensuring that musical and related equipment is set up for staff as and when required
 ensuring all musical equipment is in good condition and carrying out or arranging for any
essential maintenance when advised
 assisting students with sound/lighting/camera work during rehearsals and practical
exams
 carrying out other such reasonable duties commensurate with the position as
determined by the line manager or Principal with respect to unexpected College needs
This job description is a guide to the major responsibilities of the post holder.
Other duties may be added at the reasonable request of the Principal and the job
description itself may be revised from time to time (after discussion with the
Principal) as the needs of the College change.

Salary and Conditions of Service
This is a part-time temporary post until June 2016. Working time is 25 hours per week (term
time only). Hours will be between the College’s usual contractual hours for support staff of
8.30am - 5.00pm Monday to Thursday, and 8.30am - 4.30pm on a Friday with one hour each
day for lunch. However, an amount of flexibility will be expected to meet the requirements of
the job. It may be necessary for some evening work to be carried out for some after-hours
activities.
Salary will be at minimum wage depending on the age of the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will be expected to take up the appointment as soon as possible.
Please note that a DBS check will be required for this post.
