Planning Statement: This plan is based on information taken from Divya’s ESOL Assessment Form and OTJ.

Focus Area
Grammar
-Pronouns (he, she, him, her) –
using books and worksheets –
what is he/she doing? He/she is…
-preposition (in, on, under,
behind). Draw the pencil on the
book/under the table etc. – use
worksheets and also verbal/written
instructions (see oral language).
Learning Activities

-Cat picture/picture of boy, girl, people
– His cat, her cat, their cat etc.
WALT use pronouns in a sentence
verbally and orally.
Prepositions-Draw the pencil on the
book/under the table etc. – use
worksheets and also verbal/written

-Follow instructions –
Take photos on the playground – under
the slide, on top of the slide, next to the
slide etc. – link to pronouns – make a book
with the photos – ‘I am next to the slide’.

Writing
-Alphabet letters – correct
formation. – use alphabet
worksheets.
-Shared writing.
-Find out what letters she needs to
work on and which ones she
does/doesn’t know. – Alphabet test.

- Copy out one story of the week (see
weekly ESOL plan for story titles) into
book – look at Divya’s letter formation.
-Read story – what is he/she doing –
Divya to talk/write what he/she is
doing. – ‘He is climbing a tree’. WALT
read a story and discuss/write what
he/she is doing in the story.
-High frequency word knowledge – test
ten words, find ones she does not
know. Divya to write out words on
handwriting paper – use egg timer to
see how many times she can write the
words in 1 minute. I am learning to
read and write high frequency words
Reading
Shared reading– see stories of
the week (see titles in ESOL
weekly plan). -comprehension –
answering simple questions
about the story (literal).
-Simple questions about the story
Answering questions about the people
in the story – what are they wearing?
What is he/she doing? Etc
-Retelling a story.

-look at the alphabet chart – what
sounds does she know/not know. I am

Shared reading: -Read stories once
a day. Show words that are similar.

similar by changing the first letter.
Oral Language
-speaking and listening –
following verbal instructions. –
listening to questions, answering
in a sentence.

-Play ‘Simon Says’ – follow verbal
instructions.

oral – eg draw a circle, draw a triangle.
