Title of the Project
POMDPs for Situated Dialogue Systems
Project Description (max 300 words)
Spoken Dialogue Systems are collections of computational components that are combined in
intelligent ways to produce artificial interaction partners such as SIRI. The state of the art in
Dialogue Planning Systems are Partially Observable Markov Decision Processes. These
probabilistic systems make the best guess of the next thing the agent should say based on the
system's current estimate of the dialogue state. This project will look at going beyond the current
state of the art by looking at the training of POMDPs in spatially situated applications such as
robots and video game characters.
Please indicate the student requirements for this project
Min 2.1 Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Related Discipline. Students with experience or
interest in Computational Linguistics are particularly suited.
