Assignment Overview:
The 4 Day Nutrition Journal Assignment will require students to keep a detailed log of everything they
eat and drink for the duration of the assignment. Students will be using the MyFitnessPal website and, if
they have access, the free MyFitnessPal app on mobile devices. To complete the assignment, students
will need to create an account with a username and password. Once an account has been created,
students will have access to the largest food calorie counter, over 2 million foods, quick and easy food
and drink entry, and breakdowns of the calories and nutrients they are consuming each day.
Grading:
Grade for the assignment will be based on the completion of the following tasks (complete instructions
below):
1. Creating a MyFitnessPal Account. (10 points)
2. Complete and accurate records of food and drink intake. (40 points)
3. Reflection. (10 points)
Creating a MyFitnessPal Account (TASK #1 – 10 POINTS)
1. Visit the following website and complete steps 1 & 2. You may skip step 3.

Recording Food and Drink (TASK #2 – 40 POINTS)
For each food and drink consumed (including water intake), click Add Food tab. You will have the option
to choose which category your food and/or drink falls into: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or Snack. When
adding foods you can search the food database by name. Or, if using a mobile device, you can scan the
barcode of the food or drink you are about to consume. This will give you the most accurate description
of the food or drink. REMEMBER: You must record everything you eat and drink.
1. Record all food and drink consumed. *Remember at the end of each day: click COMPLETE THIS
ENTRY, located at the bottom of the FOOD tab.
2. PRINT a Full Report of Food Diary for each day.
a. At the top of the browser click FOOD.
b. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click View Full Report (Printable).
c. Using the calendar buttons, select the range of dates you completed your log.
d. Click Change Report.
e. Print this report.
3. Use your completed and printed food log to complete the reflection task.

TASK 3: Reflection (10 points)
1. Based on the personal information you entered when creating your MyFitnessPal account,
what did you think of your recommended caloric intake and macronutrient breakdown? Too
many calories? Too few calories? Explain.
2. Based on the recommendations from MyFitnessPal, were you able to meet your
macronutrient goals for each of the 4 days? If yes, was it easy? Explain. If no, what made it
difficult? Explain.
3. What type of insight into your diet, caloric intake, and nutrient consumption did this
assignment provide? Explain.
4. Do you think this assignment will change any of your habits regarding your nutrition?
