MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT
The Maths Department comprises a Curriculum Leader, two Assistant Curriculum Leaders
and 5 other members of staff. In addition to this both the Headteacher and the Head of
School are Maths teachers and teach within the Department. All members of the
Department are well qualified, dedicated and enthusiastic, with high expectations for all
their students. The Department achieves excellent GCSE results with a high proportion of
A and A* grades. Students enjoy Maths and a large number go on to study A Level
Mathematics. All staff teach across the age and ability range and work very much as a
team, supporting one another and sharing resources.
The Department has 5 teaching rooms and is well resourced. Throughout KS3 and 4
Mathematics is allocated 5 of the 29 periods per week.
At KS3 pupils follow a scheme of work which has been written to incorporate rich tasks
and probing questions. We have the Framework Maths textbooks which are
supplemented with lots of other resources. This scheme of work is currently under
development to prepare pupils for the changes at GCSE.
At KS4 students follow the AQA Linear GCSE. Statistics GCSE is offered as an option
and taught by members of the Department.
At KS5 we offer Edexcel A Level Maths and Further Maths, a GCSE resit class and a
Functional Skills qualification.
The Department runs a Maths Shop from which students can buy equipment. This is
staffed by Year 8/9 students who open the shop every break time.
