1. Use sharps bin for disposal of sharps, use eye protection and
protective gloves where potential for injury exists, e.g. when handling
broken glassware, see SOM018
2. Avoid use of ‘open bladed’ tools, e.g. use scissors, Use correctly,
make safe after use, e.g. scalpel and razor blades to be put in sharps
bin after use, knives to be replaced into protective cover, use hand and
eye protection if required
3. Blunt needles to be used, Use eye protection, training, SOM018

4. If any possibility of chemical contamination of sharp, additional
precautions must be taken, An additional risk and COSHH assessments
required for safety control measures
