Chance
I can show groups of or share a 1 or 2 digit number equally
I can work with 2x, 5x, 10x, 4x,6x
I can show equal chance using a spinner
I can use and understand chance vocabulary
Word Bank
Groups of, lots of, multiplication, timetables. Two, five, ten,
multiply
Likely, unlikely, certain, probable, impossible, equally likely

Apple orchard. ‘My
grandparents have a mini
apple orchard. They have
planted six rows of trees
and in each row there are
five trees. How many trees
all together.

Explore
Students in random
numbered groups. Ask
groups to work out how
many fingers they have
in each group. 10x
Show groups of using
egg cartons. Tell a
worded story problem to
match the egg carton.

Discuss what students
have learnt
1.5: - count by 2s, 5s and 10s from 0 to a given target
1.75 - count by 1s, 10s and 100s from 0 to 1000
2.0: skip count by 2s, 4s and 5s from 0 to 100 starting from any whole number
- describe and calculate simple multiplication as repeated addition, such as 3 × 5 = 5 + 5 + 5
2.5: - automatically recall number facts from 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables
2.75: - use fact families (5 × 7 = 35, 35 ÷ 7 = 5) to solve division problems
1.5: - discuss the possible results of chance events such as rolling a die
1.75: - use terms such as certain, likely, unlikely to describe everyday events
2.0: - use terms such as certain, likely, unlikely and impossible to describe everyday events
2.5: - identify events which are equally likely
2.75: - investigate the fairness of events such as games through experimentation

Dots
YOU WILL NEED:
Dice
THIS IS HOW IT WORKS
1.) Ask a student to join you at the board to model the game Dots.
2.) Do each step yourself and then have the partner do the step.
3.) Roll the die and announce the number you rolled.
4.) Draw that number of big circles on the board. You rolled a 2, so you draw 2 circles
5.) Roll the die again and announce that number.
6.) Draw that number of dots in each of your circles. You rolled a 6, so you draw six dots in each circle
7.) Write a multiplication equation to match your drawing. You wrote the multiplication problem 2x6=12 (two groups of 6 = 12)
8.) Record the total number of dots in your drawing. 12 is your score for this round
9.) Continue with your partner for four more rounds of play.
10.) After five rounds total all the dots.
11.) The player with the most dots wins.
Now let your students play at their desks!
