GRANTS FOR COMMUNITY SELECTION CRITERIA

FESTIVALS AND EVENTS

Project Outcomes

What Council expects to be the long term benefits of the project

Broad community support and participation in events at all levels;

Delivery of safe, compliant events with minimal environmental impact;

Delivery of creative community events that engage multiple stakeholders;

Activation of townships and public places with arts, heritage and community activity;

Strengthening of partnerships, including with Council; and

Encourage funding from other sources into Yarra Ranges.

Selection Criteria

The Assessment panel will look at how strongly projects address the following criteria

(What resources do applicants have to deliver the project)

The Festival/Event:

Contributes to community identity and sense of place

Demonstrates creativity and innovation

Helps to define Yarra Ranges as a region with a rich and diverse cultural life

Delivers a high quality event as a public outcome

Provides an opportunity for community to participate in festivals and events

Engages in partnerships and creative collaborations with community

Demonstrates new and dynamic ways of engaging the local community in festivals and events

Reinforces and supports the strategic focus of the organisation to provide opportunities for participation in Festivals and Events to enhance public places

Builds community capacity to plan and develop unique community events

Alignment with Council strategies including the Cultural Policy

& Action Plan, Health and Wellbeing Strategy and

Reconciliation Framework

Demonstrates the level of planning and organisational capacity required to deliver the proposed event

Includes a clear comprehensive plan and timeline with reference to for example: risk management, health & safety, logistics and marketing

Includes realistic and achievable proposed budget

Includes funding and/or in-kind support from other sources and a contribution from the applicant

The budget considers future financial sustainability of the

Does this event have a particular feature that links it to the community where it is held?

Does the event have a particular feature that distinguishes it from other events?

Has there been input from creative people within your community?

Does the event have elements which showcase the talents or skills of local people?

Is there potential for the event to have a lasting effect within the community beyond the life of the project

Community Involvement

What has been the involvement by community prior to the lodgement of the application in the design and development of the event?

Has community or a representative section of community been involved in steering and facilitating the event?

Are local businesses and community groups supportive of your event? In what ways is this support demonstrated?

The management of an event should demonstrate a blend of effective leadership and decision making that engages the community at all stages of the process.

Strategic Focus

Council has long term strategies to improve the liveability of Yarra Ranges, and the day to day lives of its residents.( e.g. improving access for people with a disability)

Documents outlining these strategies are available on Council website.

Organisational Capacity and Viability

Have you assessed what skills are needed to deliver the event? If there are skills gaps within your committee, how are you going to fill those?

Have you allocated sufficient time to plan and deliver your event – including recruitment of appropriate people and time to engage community.

Budget

Have you done your research? Fully research what will be required to deliver your event, before you can obtain quotes or estimates of what those elements will cost.

Have you included in-kind support from other sources, eg goods, services, volunteer time?

Have you sought funding from other bodies? This can be included in your budget if applications have already been made or are in progress. It is not valid to include possible funding for which no process has been started.
