ALGEBRA 2A
UNIT 1: SOLVING INEQUALITIES AND SYSTEMS OF EQUATIONS
Key Standard: 2.0 Students solve systems of linear equations and inequalities (in two or three variables)
by substitution, with graphs, or with matrices.
Core Standards:
 Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with coefficients
represented by letters and absolute value
 Prove that given a system of two equations in two variables, replacing one equation by the sum of
that equation and multiple of the other produces a system with the same solution
 Solve systems of linear equations exactly and approximately focusing on pairs of linear equations
in two variables.
 Represent a system of linear equations as a single matrix equation and find the inverse matrix
and use it to solve a system of linear equations

UNIT 2: POLYNOMIALS AND FACTORING
Key Standard: 4.0 Students factor polynomials representing the difference of squares, perfect square trinomials,
and the sum and difference of two cubes.
Core Standards:
 Factor a quadratic expression to reveal the zeros of the function it defined
 Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers; add, subtract, multiply and
divide polynomials by a monomial
 Use the distributive property to express a sum of terms with a common factor as a multiple of a
sum of terms as a sum of products
 Apply basic factoring techniques to third degree polynomials; find a common factor, recognize a
difference of squares, perfect squares and sum and differences of cubes.

7.0 Students add, subtract, multiply, divide, reduce, and evaluate rational expressions with
monomial and polynomial denominators and simplify complicated rational expressions,
including those with negative exponents in the denominator.
Core Standards:
 Perform arithmetic operations on polynomials
 Understand the relationship between zeros and factors of polynomials
