Prevent Prepare and Respond AmeriCorps members serve a 10-12 month program term. All members receive a
living allowance over the length of term (amounts provided below are the total allowance provided) plus the Segal
AmeriCorps Education Award received upon successful completion of the program. All applicants must have

Disaster Training and Preparedness: AmeriCorps member will be responsible for conducting outreach and
training to American Red Cross volunteers and community members.

Service Position Summary: The Disaster Training & Preparedness AmeriCorps Member will be responsible for conducting outreach and training
to Red Cross volunteers and community members to increase Red Cross response capacity and the resiliency of our communities. Disaster
training and response, community disaster education and case and incident documentation will be completed to ensure proper tracking of all
disaster opportunities and operations.
Essential Functions of Position:
 Coordinate to ensure qualified instructor are available to teach scheduled disaster courses
 Manage and enter records for all disaster training into SABA system
 Ensure training is available to advance volunteers in their career paths
 Identify opportunities for additional training to advance leadership volunteers
 Teach Community Disaster Education / Be Red Cross Ready in community
 Meet with direct supervisor weekly to address successes/barriers to services and perform problem-solving
 Complete monthly reports and submit to the program director
 Cooperate with Communications staff to provide most current Red Cross messages
 Refer volunteers to appropriate departments for training and follow-up
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
 Strong Public Speaking Skills
 Professional Demeanor
 Strong Computer Skills
 Strong belief in the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement
Academic and Experience Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED required. Undergraduate degree enrollment, preferably in emergency
management, preferred.
Commitment Required: Full-time – 1,700 hours (1 year grant position, to three additional based on funding and performance). Term of
Service: Nov 2013 – 30 Sep 2014.

Service Position Summary: The Military & Veteran Outreach AmeriCorps Member will be responsible for conducting outreach and education to
the military and veteran community with the overarching objective to enhance their awareness of and ultimately improve their access to
services available to military service members, veterans and their families.
Essential Functions of Position:

Develops and conducts trainings and presentations to promote Red Cross services and programs to community

Trains volunteers to provide presentations to military members, their families and community groups

Coordinates pre- and post-deployment briefings in support of DOD reunification/reconnection programs

Provides SAF case follow-up to ensure needs of military members and families are met

Develops and maintains relationships with local military installations, units and community-based military

Develop volunteer recruitment strategies to meet needs of chapter

Educate public at events, meetings, and others about Red Cross services and volunteer opportunities

Collaborate with Communications staff to provide most current Red Cross messages

Perform basic disaster services duties when requested and available
