class and in the locker rooms. This includes the constant concern for safety, personal belongings, and school
property.
GRADING SYSTEM:
 Each student will be enrolled in Health and Physical Education for the entire school year. The grade for
Health is separate from the Physical Education grade.
 All students will be graded numerically. Please note that with this system it is possible for any student
to achieve a 100 on his or her report card. Every student starts the marking period with 100 points.
o Merit Points:
+5 POINTS = Outstanding achievement
+2 POINTS = Extra Effort/Leadership
o Demerit Points:
-2 POINTS = Uncooperative/Poor participation
-5 POINTS = Unprepared/No participation
 Being prepared for class:
o You must change your clothes completely before and after class in order to receive daily credit.
o If you are unprepared for class you will not be allowed to participate with the class.
o First Unprepared – This is your “freebie” you only get ONE for the ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR.
o Second Unprepared – Your grade will be effected, if you are unprepared twice before progress
reports go out, you can expect to get one.
o Third Unprepared – Your grade will continue to be effected. Your name will be sent to the
Vice-Principal for a central detention.
o After your 3rd unprepared, your name will be sent up to the Vice-Principal for punishment every
3rd time (6th, 9th, 12th…..etc.).
BEING EXCUSED FROM PHYS. ED.:
 You must have a legitimate reason for being unprepared for PE; you must have a note excusing you
from class. The note can come from one of three places:
o Parent or guardian (at the teacher’s discretion)
o Doctor
o School nurse
 A doctor’s note is good from the date written on the note. You must have a return date in order to come
back to class. If the doctor's note says you are out "until further notice", you must get a note clearing
you to play.
RULES OF THE GYM:
 Be on time to class.
o Upon changing in the locker room, head directly up to gym (unless we are the only class).
 Sit on the bleachers.
o When you come into the gym after changing, you should report to your side of the gym and sit
on the bleachers.
 Participate in the warm-up
o It is part of your grade and it helps to prevent injuries.
 Safety First
o Never take out any equipment without asking teacher.
o Always follow rules and instructions.
o Listen for whistle, if you hear it stop doing what you are doing and pay attention.
o Think about the consequences before you take action, there are other people in the gym besides
you, and we don’t want anyone to get hurt.
 Stay out of the hallways on the sides of the stage. We cannot see you, and we don't want you to get hurt.
 Clean up when class is over. When the whistle blows to end class, help clean up. There will be no
“One more shot”, or “One more minute”. When the whistle blows, class is over, it is time to get
changed. You will lose participation points from your grade if you do not follow this rule.
RULES OF THE LOCKER ROOMS:
 Change quickly.
o Get in and get out. The locker room is for changing, not socializing. Once you are changed go
upstairs to the gym or wait downstairs if your class is alone.
 Do not touch what doesn’t belong to you.
o If you find something please bring it to your PE teacher.
o Hiding clothes and items that don’t belong to you and will result in punishment.
o Do not steal, you will be sent to the principal’s office.
o GIRLS – you can bring a lock to use for the period, but it must be removed by the end of the
period.
o BOYS – You can put your stuff in the cubbies.
o Leave all books, pens, and school clothes in the locker room. You are not allowed to do work
from other classes in PE class.....this isn't a study hall.
 Stick or roll-on Deodorants only (optional)
 Lights must stay on
o Touching the lights switch in the locker will result in punishment
 Respect the locker room
o Vandalism will not be tolerated in our locker room, the custodians work hard to keep this school
clean; don’t disrespect them or our school.
 Valuables
We will not be responsible for lost or stolen property. Do not leave money, jewelry, pocketbooks, or
other valuables in an unlocked locker. If something is stolen because of your carelessness, neither the
school nor the staff will be held responsible for belongings that are left unlocked. If a student finds it
necessary to bring valuables to school they should adhere to school policy which states that these items
must be kept in the students' assigned hall locker. If you forget, let your teacher know so it can be
locked up in the PE office.
8th GRADE SUPERSTARS & SPRING SUPERSTARS:
 Participation in Superstars is a privilege not a guarantee. The Physical Education Staff works very hard
to put on a fun and entertaining competition. If you are not going to participate in Physical Education
throughout the year, you will NOT be allowed to participate in these events. Students must have an
average of 80% or better of the completed marking periods in order to participate.
