I am lead lecturer at Bournemouth and Poole College, lecturing in subjects covering Microbiology, Biology, Human Movement, Cellular biology, Genetics, and work placement ethics, Crime Scene Investigation, Forensics, Anthropology, and Archaeology. I teach the Health and Medical Science adult students alongside the adult Social Workers in the Access courses. During my work with the College I have also continued to work in the restaurant industry, gaining more qualifications and continuing to be the Health and Safety co-ordinator in both of the roles. I am a fully qualified biological and forensic anthropologist and archaeologist, which I continue to develop in my holiday time, training the Bournemouth University students in the field. I am the Health and Safety advisor on site and off site. I have taken students to Bulgaria, France, Germany, Belgium and many places across the U.K., This is a passionate hobby of mine which I will continue work commitments and holiday time permitting. I have experience in the community and caring sector, although it has been a while since I have been “on the ground” I trained when first leaving school in a care home with dementia patients and undertook a short course on embalming, which I continue to have contact with and take students on regular behind the scenes training. I have also worked as a home care assistant for a year when I first moved to Dorset but returned to College to gain more qualifications since then. EXPERIENCE TEACHING AND EMPLOYMENT September 2009 to Current I have taken on the ACCESS teaching across two campuses, Lansdowne and North Road. I have used my previous experience in Health and Safety Training (in Retail) to become work placement supervisor across all groups of students. I have personally developed a museum work placement program which has benefited the Museum and the College. During this year I have taken on extra work to help students and the head of the department at Lansdowne Campus with teaching and marking and setting exams. I am the key Health and Safety advisor for the students and staff and I visit all work place placements to carry out detailed assessments on a regular basis. 2000 - 2013 Manager of Bay Restaurant, Managing up to 12 staff on shift throughout the Easter and summer holidays, continuing to work as needed throughout the year. I have never had a complaint from either customers or staff concerning my conduct. My duties included ordering stock, rotation of stock, cooking for customers, meeting the needs of other members of staff, closing the restaurant, cashing up, locking up, securing the building and keeping my set of keys safe. I also acted as the Health and Safety coordinator and food hygiene advisor for all members of staff. I was also a lead researcher for the business owners who decided to set up and develop a new business in Swanage. I conducted market research for the types of goods that sell well and attended numerous retail events to source goods at an excellent price, I also advised on the location of the premises and once purchased helped with the development and managed the shop fitting process, with a budget. The business has now been running for 4 years and has been a huge success, with an excellent profit margin, allowing the owners to now consider setting up in Spain, which we have been to visit several times to look at properties. I have also set up and developed a website for the owners which is nearing its final stages to become live. 1993-1999 Shift Manager of Pizza Hut, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey Shift manager of up to 20 staff. I was responsible for the day-to-day running of the restaurant including cashing up individual staff, making sure the customers were happy, sorting any complaints, keeping up the cleaning rota and stock rotation, closing the restaurant and setting up for the next shift. Ordering of stock and accounting for missing stock via breakages, damage and stolen goods. I was the key Health and Safety advisor for both general Health and Safety and food hygiene training. I set up and developed the star training program for our hut allowing staff to undertake level 1, 2, and 3 NVQs in retail, with a local college and organised onsite training with them so staff did not need to attend the College. EXCAVATION EXPERIENCE June 2013 and 2014 Excavation of 3 Neolithic long barrows. I supervised a group of ten students in Germany. The excavation was conducted over five weeks. My duties covered driving to and from Germany in a mini bus with the students, ensuring there health and safety at all times. I was the lead archaeologist on site responsible for training the 1st and 2nd year degree students in all techniques and recording of data, alongside geophysical surveys. September 2012 Excavation in Bulgaria on early Thracian cemetery. I supervised a small team of international students excavating in the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence Base in Sozopole. The excavation was for four weeks and my duties covered, training students in archaeological techniques, excavation of fine pottery and human remains, cataloguing and data recording. August 2011 Gloustershire, experimental archaeology. I was asked to attend an experimental excavation. We excavated the first ever lightning bolt strike site, which we had previously identified via Squid array geophysics the week before (awaiting publication). Duties general excavation and recording for three weeks. September 2010 Upon request I attended an excavation of a 13th – 18th Century Cementary in Mechelean Belgium. I worked with a small team of 10, where I was responsible for my own individual excavation of Human remains, identifying the sex, ancestry, and age. I was responsible for the recording, lifting, and packaging of all of my excavated material. I attended for four weeks which was self-funded. June 2008 Supervisor for first and second year students I acted as supervisor under Timothy Darvill for a five week excavation at Cirencester, Wiggold. This responsibility also included running the camp site during the evenings. In this time, I excavated a Neolithic enclosure, a round house and sampled magnetic susceptibility across the site (reference can be provided). I was in charge of allocating teams to the 53 test pits used for magnetic susceptibility and meeting the second year supervisors, making sure they were on track for the deadline and happy with their work. In addition to this, I had the role of updating and logging the finds as they were excavated and recording total station data. I controlled a special excavation of human remains, identifying each bone and taking care of special preservation. June 2007 Excavation Student Excavated a series of 5 large ditches, comprising an outer boundary of a Neolithic bank and ditch enclosure. This was a 4 week excavation and camping on site was required at Cirencester, Gloustershire.
